Hello.....so my neighbor just moved away last week and she offered me her two female cats that she could not take with her......so I took them both and it turned out they were pregnant because I woke up yesterday morning two 5 newborn kittens....The cats are outdoor cats because my daughter is highly allergic.....The problem is though that I live by a busy road the 2 cats are fine in the road and my 4 year old neutered tom is aswell but 5 senseless kittens running around I'm worried about.......will the mother prevent them from going to the road.....should I take any extra precautions I was going to get her neutered next week and then this happened....I was not expecting kittens any advice ??.....I don't want them ran over

Oh, boy, what a generous neighbor ;). Do you have a front porch or a back yard to move them too? Some sort of covering would help these tiny newborns - either a covered porch or a dog crate or box on its side in the back yard?

Why are they so close to the road? Are they in a ditch?

So this is one litter and the other female is also pregnant? These moms need extra good nutrition now - kitten chow, wet food, and fresh water.

Will you be able to find homes for all these kittens in a few weeks?

I would suggest that you get the tom cat neutered in the meantime or he will impregnate mama again very soon. Females can conceive again as early as a few days from giving birth.

i no right
.......at the moment there in my back garden in the cats house which is surrounded by a large cage, the mom can easily get out whenever she wants so there fairly safe at the moment and the house there in is nice and snug with a big comfy blanket too lie on so they are perfectly happy now,but what im worried about is when there about a month or 2 old they wont be very sensible will they and they might run out onto the road and get themselves killed....will the mother keep them from going out there or should i cage them in the run which is fairly big only to be let out under my supervision until they are gone to a new home or sensible enough thats what i did with the tom (who is allready neutered) becouse the cat i had befor him got killed in a week becouse he was too young and not very sensible.....but if i do cage them when there at running around age the mama wont be able to get into them untill i open and close the cage would that be a problem would the mother go crazy if i confined her like that with them while she feeds them......she can leave as she pleases now doh.....i could possibly cut a hole in the roof im sure 2 month old kittens couldnt jump that high....what do you think ?

Can you raise them in your house? That would be ideal. They would be safer and have less exposure to parasites and fleas. You could socialize them for getting adopted.

In my opinion the kittens should NOT be let out of the run at all - ever. They are much too young. I also would NOT cut a hole in the top because a predator could get in. You'll have to let mama kitty in and out. Put a litter box inside for her and the kittens too. Still, inside your home would solve more problems.

Glad tom is neutered! What's the status on the other pregnant cat?

Are her nipples pink yet? Can you take her in to be spayed now before she gets pregnant? They can also terminate an early pregnancy during the surgery. Might be easier all the way around. Post a picture if you like.
