Hey guys, I am hoping that I am just panicked over nothing, but I would love an opnion on this. I would take my cat to the vet, but I am on a small island right now and it would take several hours, and they would be closed by then. A few minutes ago my cat (7 year old long haired siamese) was sleeping on the couch, and I noticed she was twitching her paws and face, and that her eyes seemed half open, and they looked like they were moving around. At first it was really gentle, I thought she was having a nightmear, so i just started petting her; she had no response, so then I tried waking her to no avail, and then finally tried poking at her and moving her body around and head, and still she didn't wake, and the twitching seemed more intense, and her muscle tone seemed totally limp. I started freaking out and just when I had left her alone for a few seconds ( I did try yelling which didnt work), she just RANDOMLY rolls over and jumps up, then just stretches, and looked a little bit confused.

Now, I am a Registered Nurse and first figured best case scenario, she was in a deep REM sleep, but that shouldn't explain the limpness? Also, the random jumping up after about 3-4 seconds of stimuli further confounds this. I am worried that she has trig, gered a seizure somehow.

There are several possible triggers in that I just moved accross Canada (long road trip 3 weeks ago, hard on the cat), she's become somewhat of an outside cat for the first time as we are in the middle of nowhere, and she has had new food since I couldn't find what I usually get. So stress, environment, and food could all play a role. I don't remembe this being a regular thing, but I do recall a few years ago freaking out thinking my cat was dead, but I forget the details. This could happen more often than I think because she has become somewhat elusive since I got my dog 4 years ago. Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

It sounds like she was probably in a really deep sleep. I have an older cat that twitches really bad in her sleep sometimes and she's really hard to wake up sometimes also. My husband thought she was dead once. If she seems totally normal otherwise I would just keep a close eye on her for now. Of course I'm not a vet though and if your really worried it's always best to take her in for a check up.

I agree that this sounds like just a really deep sleep.  Cats often dream ( one supposes anyway) and twitch as if they are chasing after toys or prey.  Maybe since your girl was inside sleeping,  she felt pretty safe and was able to fall into one very deep sleep, which is not that normal, but does happen on occasion, when they feel it's safe for them to do so.

I would think to set up a regular chekup and mention the stress and sleep or whatever it was. As long as she is doing fine I wouldn't worry though.
