Is my cat going to be a bad mom?

So my cat is about 8 years old and she's pregnant for the first time. I've only had her so she hasn't really been around any other cat aside from the ones she may have encountered the few times she has gotten out- and the one that got her pregnant -____- . My vet thinks that I should abort her kittens because they think she's going to be a bad mom :( They only feel this way because she is absolutely terrible when she goes to vet, like they have to sedate her terrible. So in their mind, she's this mean nasty cat. She's not like that with me. She has her moments but she doesn't go there with me. And for the most she's pretty sweet. Sleeps with me. lets me pet her and even lets me give her baths without (much) problem. But I don't want to abort her kitten but now they have me wondering if she's going to be bad mother and kill the kittens or something.

My concern is less that your cat will be a bad mom and more that she may be too old to be having kittens. Pregnancy and delivery are hard on older cats, and sometimes they are unable to produce enough milk to feed their kittens.

A pregnancy could be life-threatening for your older cat, or her kittens could be stillborn if she has trouble during delivery. Even if all goes well, you could end up having to feed the kittens yourself with a syringe if she does not produce enough milk.

I also suspect your cat's temperament is affected by the fact that she is not spayed. Cats who are spayed are happier, calmer, and healthier - and live longer - than those who are not.

Your cat can be spayed now and her pregnancy terminated during the surgery.

I personally would not wish a pregnancy on an 8-year-old cat.

I hope you will put some thought into this, and make the best decision for your cat.

I  agree with SArthur.  Exactly my thougts here.

Let me take one example.   IF I were a breeder, I would think thrice on letting a 8 year to be a new mom if she had no previous litters.  And then just if she had some interesing lines in her, or other extra features interesting to put into the  gene pool.   AND she must be absolute healthy.

As you see, I dont even mention the fact being a breeder, my vet is not only good, but also a skilled obstetrician. and all the insurances payed.

I think it is the safest way to go in this case. Your cat will be healthier and happier. :)
