What week can you feel the kittens moving? Placing my hand on her tummy I felt these little pops. And I'd never felt them before then but it felt so neat. They were mostly on her right side but I felt them on the left too. Is that what that was?

That could be the kittens moving.  As they grow you should be able to see them as well.  Be very gentle when touching her sides.  It is possible to harm the kittens.

Is it normal for her nipples to be kinda... chapped? it's not dry milk, its not late enough for that, but they have these little... flakes? it kinda just looks like dry skin, and it's mostly around the nipple, not on the nipple itself, i guess. (good news - we got kitten chow today and i explained to my mom why hartz is freaking awful and she agreed to not buy any for her)

The flakes are usually dried milk that's leaking. How far along do you think she is? Dried milk flakes are usually the last week or so.

Otherwise, she is chapped.

She's 49 days. I can take a picture tomorrow, but she's nowhere near big enough to go into labor soon and she cannot give birth early. They've been like that for a week or so now? They always looked kinda dry

Then she is chapped from licking. Just lubricate them with oil as was suggested. She still has about 3 weeks left.

Alright! Thank you so much. I like resting a hand on her and waiting for the little rolls under there. I think there's only a couple, there's not that much movement, but it's still early. We got definite forever homes for at least two right now! And if we fix and de-flea one as soon as possible, perhaps another. If there's that many! (Also off topic - but I just found out I'm expecting myself. No more litter box duty for me! Yay!)

It is! First ultrasound monday to see my own little one. I'm somewhere between 4-8 weeks along I believe, I'm not quite sure. It's a long road ahead but I'm ready!

Congratulations!  Great timing too.  Getting out of litter cleaning for those kittens.

There isn't much to see that early, but maybe you will hear the heartbeat. Exciting times for you though! :)

Haha I could have been expecting as long as Princess! I wasn't expecting that when I had my blood work done this quarter. Glad I found out though!

How often do complications really happen during labor for cats? I read so many on here where the kittens or the mama cats die. I'm scared. I can't lose princess.

There is no good answer to that question because it depends on so many variables. I would say that the majority of cats birth healthy kittens with no problems. :)

I know her entire family had healthy births - they lived under a barn and none of them died during childbirth. I'm just worried because I just saw the sad news about Polka and I'm scared about everything. (And hormonal... but that's beside the point.)

You need to think positive.  Princess has been with you for years and has had good food all her life, shots and is well taken care of.  Polka was a stray living outside 3 weeks ago.  We can't know what kind of a life she had before Sweetlynn86 took her in.  It is a hard life on the streets for many strays, even the ones people feed..  You can't really compare the two cats.

When I get too sad from news on this forum, I got to nikkykay's thread and look at the pictures of Khaos.  Today I also went to a local rescue's adoption event to see some tiny kittens.

Don't let those hormones get you down.
