My name is Jenn and I have a farm of animals here. Currently 2 cats (plus feral momma kitty, mother of the 2 as of last night), 4 dogs (2 Newf/Pys and 2 Dobermans), plus 5 Paso Fino horses (until one leaves Thursday).  We live in the desert of Southern Nevada.

I have always picked up stray cats, kittens, dogs, you name it since I was a tot. It runs in my family. I used to do cat adoptions out of Petsmart and had a high adoption rate after teaching the cats to wave at people or play fetch. From there I did Dog Training out of Petsmart and had a k9 rescue up until last year for Wolf/wolfdog, Newf/Newfmix, & German Wirehaired Pointers. Eclectic, I know.

I found this forum because last night I finally took the step to shut t he door behind feral momma kitty I have taken 3 yrs to finally friend enough to let me love on her in the doorway of the front door. The temps were 106 yesterday and I constantly worried about her safety as we have Mtn Lion, Bobcat, and a TON of cat-eating coyotes in the front yard. I was looking up ideas on what to do since it is a crazy household here and was pointed to this forum with the stray/feral section. Deciding when the best time was to do this was never going to happen. There is never a "best" time to send your household into a tizzy.

Momma showed up a bit over 3 yrs ago out of nowhere. We never had stray or feral cats over here. We did not know if it was a male or female, but soon saw it was a she since she was pregnant. Lovely. She was living under the house. She had her kitten (just one that I know of, she is a very petite cat). Caught the kitten and she is my "Smokey". I tried to trap her as soon as the kitten was brought in. No luck. She got pregnant a few months later. She had 2 kittens. One became my "Boz" and the other "B.B." went to a long time family friend who LOVES her.

I have been debating on bringing her inside. She absolutely loves her babies and recognizes them but they have no clue who this interloper is. I have been doing gradual meet sessions with a big x-pen between them while I sit in the doorway. Still, the children are NOTTTTTT happy. And momma has cried behind the couch all night. *sigh* It's going to be a long few weeks until this hopefully settles down. Hang on, it's going to be a bumpy ride..

Wow, that's quite a household.  I wish you the best of luck getting mama cat to settle into being a house cat.  Welcome to TCS!
