My cat seems to have a red ring around his eyes and they look a little puffy or possibly swollen in the corners? Could someone give me some insight of what's going on and if I need to take my baby to the vet? He is an inside/outside cat. He spends some of his time outside, but he does stay inside next to me about the same amount of time. I am worried to let him outside because of this. Could this be caused by stress? I am a college student, so I spend most of my time at the school, but I live with my parents and they feed him and take care of him.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to TCS!

All i can tell you based on the photos is that something is wrong  with the eyes, the photo captures it.  What no one can tell you is what exactly is wrong.  Infection, allergic response?  But something is wrong.  The only thing that probably is not a cause is stress, at least not by itself.  Going outside increases the likelihood of catching communicable illnesses.

There are lots of reasons not to let a cat outside, but what you've identified is more of a reason to take him to a vet.

Looks like he got scratched, which could heal up OK on its own, or it could get a lot worse. Seeing that it's his eye, I would be quite concerned and if it were my cat I'd want the vet to take a look.

Alright, thank you very much. When I first adopted him, my original plan was to have him be an indoor cat only, but unfortunately my parents couldn't stand a talkative cat and let him outside anyways even though I said not to. So, now he's a indoor/outdoor cat. I will definitely make an appointment to the vet as soon as I can. I do not like seeing my baby's eyes like that.
