Mama kitty went into labor this morning right before I was walking out the door. My 3 year old likes to play around her and she likes to meow back at him but her meowing was just different this morning so I looked at her and her rear end was covered in fluid. I took her and contained her in the bathroom where we had a quiet labor area set up for her. Left her alone for about 6 hours and when we came back I suspect mama had just competed lab print her 4 kitties about 30 minutes or so prior. She was very happy to have me back, let me pet her and massage her abdomen lightly to check that all babies were born and she let me clean her lab print area as well as let me move her to a more spacious area across the bathroom that I could hate off from my son.
Mom is doing great and is nursing and has cleaned her babies. She has left the babies and went back to them immediately to nurse. She has food and water although I haven't noticed her eating or drinking yet.
I am concerned that she still has a very messy rear/vaginal(?) area. Should I bathe her or leave? How long should I leave her to see if she cleanses herself?
Thanks in advance
