So when we took our kitten to the vet he said that she was underweight. She is thirteen weeks old at this point. We're going to give worming treatment tomorrow so this part of the problem will at least be taken care of. But beyond this how do we help her gain weight? We switched foods and are giving her five meals of Royal Canin kitten food (this is what the vet wanted her on) each day. Will this problem fix itself or should we supplement her food with something else?

Kitten food is a good idea for kittens. I don't think it has to be RC necessarily but if that's what your vet recommends, it's fine. Once she's parasite free and has kitten food she should be gaining weight. If that doesn't happen (given a week or two), you'll have to consult the vet again.

that she gains weight soon and there's no issues.

I personally wasn't sure on the Royal Canin. We bought it since the vet recommended it, but the cat food that we were feeding before (that wasn't a kitten food at all) has more fat, protein, and moisture than her new stuff. She still is stealing this food from the other cat though (even when her bowl is full), so I figure a mix of both is unlikely to hurt.

I've not ever fed Royal Canin, too expensive for me. What I have fed is Purina Kitten Chow, kittens gain weight easily and grow up healthy and strong. I would advise you feed her a variety of food no matter the brand, dry and canned while she is young, to help avoid a picky kitty later in life.
