Hello All. I am new to this site but am seeking any info from those mom's and dad's who have info on hcm. Alice was diagnosed last March *2014 on her first birthday. She has been on antenonol for one year an 3 months. We are scheduled for a 2nd sonogram this upcoming week. Shes not doing well. Any info is appreciated.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. Cali had heart disease his whole life (probably hcm but I can't be certain). The only symptom he presented with was a murmur. As he was impossible to medicate, the vet took the view that the stress of medicating outweighed any benefits the drugs would have. He finally developed chf aged 12, and we were able to maintain his quality of of life for a few months with multiple medications (steroids, diuretics, B12 injections for appetite, inhaler steroid and bronchodialator. He also needed oxygen a couple of times.) He passed away early last year.

It is possible for them to live a reasonable time with hcm. I can't give you a huge amount of information, but I hope thus gives you some hope for the future. I have a dog with the same condition who is now in the early stages of chf (at 13 years old). He's on vetmedin, and doing very well. Vetmedin is used for cats too. It might be worth asking about, though I must stress that I'm not a vet.

I hope you're able to find the right mix of meds for Alice. :vibes:

Thanks so much for the info. I appreciate it. Apparently hcm is common but the severity depends on the individual. Unfortunately she has a 4 grade heart murmur with 6 being the most severe

I'm sorry she's not doing so well with her murmur at the moment. What symptoms does she have at the moment?

There are plenty of treatment (medication) options still open to you though. Don't lose hope :hugs:
