Hi everyone,

My kitty Milita was diagnosed with pneumonia last week.  Our vet gave her Baytril, Clavamox, and Prednisolone to treat it.  Milita really hates Clavamox more than any other antibiotic she's ever had, and it's incredibly stressful for everyone here to give it to her.  I'd love to make the experience more positive for her, but she refuses to eat treats or wet food or anything after she's gotten the medication.  We have to give her Clavamox twice a day, and she's gotten to the point where she's hiding for hours under the bed because she's scared of getting the medication.  The Clavamox also makes her tummy very upset (she is vomiting and having a little runny stool).  Our vet knows this as Milita's had this antibiotic before, so I'm not quite sure why she went with this antibiotic.

In any case, I wanted to know if anyone knows another antibiotic that can treat pneumonia.  We are going back to the vet on Tuesday to get another chest x-ray to see if the current treatment is helping her.  I'd like to have some suggestions to discuss with the vet to see if there's another antibiotic she feels is appropriate for Lita.

In the meantime, we will keep giving her the Clavamox.  I just feel awful that it's causing her this much stress.

Hi everyone,
It should be given after she eats, not before.  And if you've been given the liquid version, there is also a pill version that can be put into a pill pocket etc.

Also two other commonly used antibiotics are doxycycline and zenequin.

I don't know off hand if there is a better antibiotic specifically for the treatment of pheumonia, but do know that one of my cats absolutely could NOT take Clavamox,  (vomiting, lethargy, complete loss of appetite), so his VET always come up with something else in lieu of nothing
.

But perhaps what Stephen suggested will help

for a quick recovery

Thanks!

Milita loses her appetite on Clavamox, too, which isn't surprising seeing as she vomits and has runny stool on it.  I will see if there is something else they can give her.  It's good to know Clavamox comes in pills if there's nothing else, though.  She seems to do a bit better with pills.  She absolutely detests that icky pink liquid.
