Hi I have a pregnant cat who is now at 62 days gestation. this will be her second litter, and unfortunately i was not present for her first litter. I have witnessed several kittening in the past but this one seems a bit different. On Wednesday June 10 she started discharging milky white mucus from her vulva. Yesterday her temperature went from 100.5 average too 99.4 consistent. she shows no outward signs of impending birth other that the temperature and a little bit of discharge. no nesting, panting, crying, nervousness.

so my question is this. Is the secretion of mucus an indication her cervix is opening, and should i be expecting a delivery a bit earlier then the standard 65 days. thank you :D

Are you 100% sure of the day she mated? The discharge usually accompanies dilation, but this can happen over a few days. Temperature is not always an accurate predictor, so if she is not breathing heavily, panting, or contracting, all you can do is wait. The average pregnancy in cats is about 65 days, but it is not an exact science. Is your cat dilating? Once fully dilated, contractions usually pick up and delivery begins within a few hours of that. It sounds like she is progressing well at her own pace and you just need to wait. :)

@sathur2- thank you for your prompt reply. Yes I am fairly sure of the date she bred. the discharge isn’t much but it was not present the day before its discovery. Temp has been consistent up until yesterday. i guess it is just a waiting game now. A bit excited and hoping everything goes smoothly. thank you so much for your help :D

lol yes she seems quite ready to have them out. So its been approximately 36 hours since temp drop, and the milky mucus is minimal now . I figure she will give birth on time. she still isn’t doing much but sleeping and cleaning herself most of the time. I’m approximating 5 kittens. hopefully it will happen tonight. :)

If not tonight, it will surely be soon. Any dilation yet?

Im not sure really. I don’t know any other methods to check whether dilation is in progress other than mucus secretion, anxiousness, nesting which she isn’t showing with exception to the little mucus. do you know any other way to indicate dilation during first stage of labour?

You will see her vulva opening up. It will become more and more open as labor progresses. It is usually easy to see once it starts happening.

I'm not sure if mine will come tonight she went into her bed last night and had a good scratch and a pant and tonight she's been back in her bed and scratched up again but is acting calm and normal but could be another 12 hours yet as it's her first litter just hope this is it now xx
