My cat Charlotte Robyn had a miscarriage two days ago. She's just over a year old; this was certainly her first pregnancy. I saw lots of blood and some tissue. She alternately tried to run from the material and to clean it up. Normally she is the cuddliest of my 4; now she is the most reclusive. Very human in her reaction. I can take her to the vet to make sure she expelled everything, that she is physically ok. But how do you comfort her emotionally? So far I've been drawing from experiences of humans (including my own), giving her love by the case, her favourite foods, and as much touching as she'll permit. Ironically, her sister gave birth on 20 May to 4 perfect kittens, and hostility has come to be. What are some suggestions to gently assist Charlotte back into her normal environment? Ciao!

Is there a shelter nearby with orphan kittens?  Sometimes the mom who lost her kittens will nurse another cat's kittens.

Yes, fostering is good. It is a shame her sister will not let her help with her babies. Usually they will. Otherwise, time and love are the great healers! Sorry for the loss!

I agree on the idea of fostering.  Just  be sure the fosterlings are fairly healthy, for example, they werent orphaned because the mom died in some contagious disease...

Vets around do often know if there is some orphans in travelling distance...   I believe many of them has a chain of knowledge about such, and are helping each others.

Also, if she isnt no breeding queen within a breeding programme, plan on spaying her soon now, especielly if she dont gets any orphans to help (and perhaps even give milk).

A similiar advice for her sister too, of course, in 4-5 weeks more.

One of my other cats, Charlotte Robyn, who is Gretschyn's sister, had an early miscarriage, changing her behaivour from lovey & sweet to almost feral. I take great care to keep CR and kittens separate, for fear that CR might actually kill. I've read of these jealousy-based (?) behaviour before, but never saw it in person. Both sisters are scheduled to be spayed. The Shelter has a program - you bring them the kittens, and Mama is spayed at no charge. Wow! I've written a lot! Anyone who has noticed unusual post-miscarriage behaviour, I'd love to hear from you!
