Newly neutered older feral in March was doing fine. two months ago, appetite decreased, excessive thirst and weight loss. Cat is soooo frail. I can't approach him yet. Still too feral but getting better. No chance of retrapping to go to the vet. He's wasting away. Any thoughts? The good news is that he's so happy now. Always close to the house and social with the other cats. Is content sleeping on my front porch all the time. Help!

Excessive thirst and weight loss is a sign of diabetes in cats.
OR kidney disease
.  Is he continuing to eat well?  If he's eating well, then I would say it's probably diabetes, which definitely needs attention and meds.

If the weight loss is due to less food intake, then it's probably kidney disease.  With that, there aren't specific meds to keep "fix it", but there ARE things that acan be done, although difficult with a feral.

Either way, though,he needs to be seen by a Vet, which sounds pretty impossible.  BUT, with either of these issues, dry food is the worse thing for him.  Are you his food supplier?  If he's diabetic he need low carb food, which would mean something like Fancy Feast CLASSICS or SHEBA or Friskies Pates (not listing expensive foods as he is a Feral), BUT, FF CLASSICS are not good if he has kidney disease. I think the others are ok in either base.  But he might also need insulin if Diabetic

I agree with the kidneys as the issue. His food intake has been declining since February. Ive tried all varieties of wet food. The vet said to just give him food he will eat. Good news is that he seems content and in no discomfort. Goes to the other cats for affection. They have been surprisingly tolerant. Thanks for all your advice. Mis
