Hello all,

I posted a couple weeks ago when my kitty Charlie was back home after being blocked with struvite crystals. It's been a long couple of weeks full of ups and downs. After the first week of meds, he seemed fine for about 2 days, and then he started to pee outside of his litter box, and acting uncomfortable again. The vet prescribed another weeks worth of pain meds and anti spasm meds, was a very up and down week, when there was no consistent improvement, so when those were up they did the same thing, more pain meds and anti-spasm meds, and asked me to get a urinalysis.

Last Saturday I got the urinalysis done, and there were elevated white blood cells and bacteria, but at that time he seemed to be getting better and better, so they didn't prescribe any antibiotics at that point. 2 days ago he started to go downhill again, and they decided that antibiotics would be a good idea as she suspected a UTI caused by bacteria when catheterized that wasn't wiped out by the first round of meds, so I have been giving him 62.5mg AventiClav tabs twice a day for the past 2 days, and am hoping to see improvement soon, but he has been peeing very very small amounts each time he enters the litter box for the past 2 and a half days (about the size of a quarter each time, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less). I called the vet yesterday and today, and they said as long as he's producing urine that he doesn't need to come in, but I know he is taking in a lot more fluids than he has been putting out. It doesn't bother him when i palpate his stomach, and he really doesn't seem to be in much pain, but the very small amounts in the litter box are starting to concern me. When he goes in the litter box, he isn't straining, but he only spends max 10-15 seconds at a time trying to pee. He doesn't seem blocked, just like he maybe can't push out everything in his badder when he goes?

Anyone have experience with this sort of behaviour? Besides the peeing he seems mostly like his normal silly self. Still playing, snuggling, eating(RoyalCaninSO+added water), his posture seems comfortable when he's walking or sleeping, back to sleeping curled up in a ball which he wasn't before. Maybe a little sleepy, but that is a side effect of the pain meds and the antibiotic.

Just bumping this thread up for you since you haven't gotten any replies.  I, personally, haven't had a cat who'se experienced this issue (thankfully), but know there are those who have), and from what I've read about them, know it's a pretty difficult recovery....definitely has it's ups and downs
