Do you keep your cats food and your own food in the same cabinets or areas...

I have always kept my Autumn's  food in a specific area.  I have a cabinet I use just for all of the cans of cat food.  Below that on a counter I keep her dry food.  Here is a pic of Autumn's cabinet of cans

Even though it is canned food, I would rather keep them separate than mixed with my cans of food.  What is your opinion on this.

Oh yes, I totally agree with you. The ladies'  food is kept on top of the microwave and my food goes in the cabinet. That way I can see how much they have of each flavor - I usually keep 9 different flavors and go in rotation.

I've never thought anything of it but I keep the cans in a large trash can that I used to store bags of dry food in.

I also rotate the cans of food so she doesn't eat the same thing at every meal.

I actually have bookshelves in my hallway dedicated to cat (and dog) food. I tend to bulk buy online, and so need plenty of space for storage.

The only downside is that my hallway now looks like a pet shop (well, pet shop cross tack room, given that my pony's saddles etc are in there too) :lol3:

We have one cabinet in the kitchen dedicated to cat food, bowls, treats, any veterinary meds, etc., plus two double cabinets in the cellar pantry for bulk supplies. However, that's for convenience only, not for any sanitary reasons. Open cans and bottles of cat milk are stored in the fridge right beside our food and beverages, and cat dishes and bowls go in the dishwasher with our own.

It's the same at the animal shelter. Crockery and utensils used by the volunteers are stored in different cabinets so we can easily find things, but rinsed in the same sink and put through the dishwasher with the cat, dog and small animal bowls.

Good point jcat jcat . It's convenience that makes us store pet food separately. Like you, once opened cans are stored alongside human food, and the same sink and dishwasher are used for humans, cats and dogs.

I store Ming's freeze-dried food on top of the fridge and his canned foods in a box under a plant stand. Both are super inconvenient and it's really just because we have no space.

My mum used to collect wooden chopsticks for me to mix the food but that quickly stopped when I saw my mom  use a fork! So now we're all very uncaring of our "fear" of cat germs
My parents discouraged me heavily from letting my cat sleep on my bed the first month but now they've given up and have even put Ming on my bed! The power of cats is truly amazing!

I keep it separate with a number of cans out on those can trays the stores have (buy in bulk and take them to the register with those than use them. The ones not on those in the front room are stored under my bed in a clear plastic box. Have no other way since I started keeping a lot after having to run out with terrible snow when I ran out of wet food right after adopting Sera and Tsuki since Sera pretty much avoided dry food lol.

Otherwise there isn't much seperation (bowls are washed in the dishwasher), open cans kept in the fridge, etc Family admits that they don't like it but I view them as paranoid.

The top pull-out shelf of our pantry closet in the kitchen is for the canned food for the kids. Depending on how much room I have (or don't have) elsewhere, I'll stick some of our stuff there as well, things like cans of tomato sauce/paste, tuna, etc.

I also keep extra cans downstairs in the basement stairway. Rick put in shelves for me to store foods there.

Nice picture, Carol!

We keep ours separate.  I try to stack my cat food by flavor (can color).  Daisy is on a special diet so hers is in a totally different place than everybody else's.
