Our cat, Patch, she looks like she's gonna give birth but it has been 2 hours since she started acting strange but still no kitten has come out. Im a bit worried but I think she'll be fine because she gave birth before to 4 kittens and I think her experience can help her know what to do. Any advice on what to do? Thanks!

Is she pushing with no success? Does she seem in distress? If so, get her to the vet asap. If not, she may simply be experiencing a pause in her labor. Sometimes it can take awhile. How is she acting now? Or did she have the kittens by now? :)

Thanks for the replies. I searched about cat delivery and ive read that cats find their nesting place even a week before their labor, is that true? So we assumed that shes not gonna deliver her kittens today.. we provided her the nesting place but my problem is she produced this white liquid thing and her vulva has pinkish/reddish liquid then she still didnt give birth. Shes not like trying to push. She just lies dowb and she goes to the food. She walks around and lies around but she does not go into the nesting place. I dont know whats wrong with her. Did she have a miscarriage? To start with, i think her tummy is a bit smaller than the last time she got pregnant. So maybe she got a miscarriage??? :'((((

Ive also read that the delivery process might take 12 to 24 hours. So we are just waiting and looking after her. We only assumed that she was giving birth because she went to this secluded small space inside our room. Then we put her in the nesting place and she started licking her vulva and she produced the liquid that i mentioned. Then i put a soft cloth in her nesting place and she started kneading it. Then she started to go out of the nest then just laid on the floor. She stopped licking and kneading and panting. I dont know whats happening.

It sounds like she lost her mucous plug. This usually happens a day or two before labor and delivery. She may even be in pre-labor already. The discharge is also normal. It sounds as though she is not in distress, and that things are moving as they should. She will likely go into hard labor and birth her kittens in the next 24 to 48 hours. All the licking is also a sign she is close. Now you must wait patiently, but continue with updates. :)

PS: The smaller tummy is because her kittens have dropped into the birth canal in preparation to be born. She is getting very close when this happens!

They begin to seek after a nesting place yes, but take it they often do very late.  They dont want it be become smelly, or get flea infested too early, as is the common in the wild.

So its common they do deliver in some provisorical nesting place, and move soon thereafter to the prepared nest.

Do rub her tummy if she wishes and allows.

The phase of acitve labor should be much shorter, shorter than with humans.

But the phase of prelabor may be as you wrote yes.   Before it they may even have several hours of precontractions, several days before the delivery.  Its a way of Nature to prepare her muscles for the real work.

As I understand so far, she is proceeding quite normally,  I agree with SArthur.

We cannot see your cat of course, so we could be off. Do you know when she mated? Let's see how things go today! :)

Were still looking after her but too bad I dont know when she mated :( But what if she still doesnt give birth until tomorrow? Does that mean she's in a bad condition?

Where, exactly did she had this white liquid?  Its a premilk from her teats, or its discharges from the vulva??

And if from wulva, what EXACTLY you mean by white liquid?  If its pus, its not good,  if its a quite common non colored discharge,  its quite OK and entirely normal discharge.

Im trying to reread the tread.   Problem is,  Im not sure where we are.

It CAN have been some precontractions and some discharges, and if so, everything is normal, and she may even be a couple of days left.

HAS she dropped?   You usually see it  alike she is suddenly not so big as she was a few hours earlier...   And you dont feel the kittens move as much, and you feel them move further down almost between her hind legs.

If not precontractions and she HAS dropped, its prelabor we see...  As long as she isnt in fruitless active labor, you can probably wait!

Re contacting your vet - it may be wise, but it depends in much if he is an experienced obstetrician.  Most vets arent, ist almost only these cooperating much with breeders and rescue groups whom are...   A decently skilled, but not so experienced vet may perhaps be tempted to do a cesarean  "because he can", and feels you are expecting this to be done.

An emergency cesaren, if done too early  will save her life, all right, but will almost surely kill the kittens.   Kittens dont manage well premature deliveries - unlike humans.

With humans, if unsure, you rush to the hosptial and they make the cesarean.  It may be costly in dollars, but everybody are alive and well.

Its more problematic with cats....

On the other side, cats manage a little too long pregnancy better than humans, so the scale levels up somewhat.

Good luck!

Im having problems with Patch because the other day, her vulva is turning pink and she produced whitish liquid from her vulva. She was panting and kneading and looking for nesting place. But after a while she stopped doing all of that. Her tummy is smaller and she just came back to normal. Shes not kneading and panting anymore. Until today, shes not showing any signs of labor. Thats why im confused. She looks fine and her tummy looks really small.

Its her second time being pregnant and her tummy was bigger before. This time, her tummy was smaller. So im not sure if shes going to deliver any time soon. But what makes me confused is that she looked like she was in labor. She acted like she was in labor. What is happening? :'(

Probably some very early labor with mild contractions. If her belly is smaller it is probably because the kittens have "dropped" into the birth canal in preparation for being born. This makes the mama cat's sides look smaller. Discharge comes and goes. This is normal. When the hard labor starts the heavy breathing will continue. Labor can start and stop and may take quite a few hours. She is getting there! Just be patient! :)

Yes, I agree.  I think when you began to write, it was  precontractions you witnessed.  Natures way to get gymnastics and exercise for the muscles involved.

After that, she has dropped (looks smaller) Kittens are now in the birthing postiions..       You yourself write the foregoing pregnancy she was bigger, so her litter now is surely smaller.  And when she drops, she is even smaller of course.

And NOW  she is in the postition for real prelabor, and hopefully soon enough, real labor and delivery.    As said, some pauses may happen too.  Be calm, it helps HER to be calm and unstressed.  It helps her to deliver.    :)

I honestly think its as it shall.

Thank you for these advices. Im still waiting for her actual labor and im looking after her very cautiously and all the time. Just in case she delivers the kittens. But currently, she has this drop of blood in her vulva. I think that's normal too just like what you told me, shes going through pre labor contractions. Thanks again :) ill update asap :)
