You and your husband did great! No experiences like that in your old life. Do you think that's why she was screaming earlier?

No she was trying to escape earlier for sure. I am scared to even think it but she seems like there may be another coming. God help me. I put the crate next to the nest area and I'm hoping to coax her in there

Pity on te kitten, but its fate was not to live.   The moms life is most important is all such situations.

Again,  I do thank you, in the name of the Cat.

Poor thing probably needs some peace. Has she calmed down some now? Not panting? And did she eat the last placenta and clean the baby?

What a fantastic thread. Poor mama. Not even one kitty after all that. You and your family are wonderful.
I'm waiting for more information.

She did eat the placenta, she is no longer panting but I can't get a good look at her. She is hissing when I get close again. I have her fresh food and kitten forms and water i also added cooked liver hoping she will get in the crate. I put a box with a hole inside the crate and a blanket over the whole crate. I put the whole crate in a different corner and moved some things near it so it doesn't seem like a " trap" . I hope she goes in so I don't have to catch her. Poor thing .

After you're day together I'm surprised she is hissing and running from you.  Hope you get a good nights sleep tonight.  You must be exhausted.  Will they spay her on Monday?

You're awesome! You thought of everything. Wish she were as friendly all the time as she was when she needed your help. It's just fear, I guess. I'm wondering if she'll become your barn cat after she is spayed?

I hope she goes in the crate for you too, but nothing has been that easy so far. I also hope she will be calm tonight. She should be exhausted. I suppose she was having after pains earlier. Hopefully you can get some rest tonight too. I'll check in with you tomorrow. You have handled all of this really well. I just continue to feel sad for this poor kitty.

If they can't spay her Monday I will go to the regular vet and have them do it. Anything to prevent this from happening again

I don't blame you. I hope the van can do it for you Monday since they are cheaper and it sounds like they come to you.

Do you have by chance possibility to get Feliway?  Adapter or even spray?    Its sibling product Felifriend is even better in such situation when you must handle a highly scared cat, but Felifriend isnt sold in the USA  afaik.

There are also other  anti fear-remedies.  If you have any of them at hand, you can try, it may be worth it.

Otherwise you can perhaps try with some calming relaxing music.  Our veteran LDG recommends classical harp music as the best for calming semiferales.
I suppose you DO talk a lot to her in a soft, friendly voice, making friendly noses?

Not looking at her eyes, look a little aside.

Go there around and  orforward to  her on all fours, strech yourself forwards and backwards,   like friendly cats do to greet each other of friendly humans.

Yawn broadely....

I hope these tricks of trade will spread the picture of you as a friendly cat person.

Actually, StefanZ StefanZ makes a very good point about approaching the cat on all fours. Sitting nearby and offering a treat.

How is the kitty situation today?

So I went to check on her this morning and I couldn't find her anywhere. I interrogated the whole family. My husband found a small opening in the safety net I put up so she couldn't get out under the gate and doors , he thinks she clawed her way through that. I didn't think she could have fit through it but he is sure she could have. I'm really upset. She ate the liver but nothing else . I don't usually leave food out but I set a few traps with more food, I'm hoping she come back for more food.

Oh, man. Sounds like she definitely got out. Let's hope she comes back for food and is trapped for her own sake. I figure she associates your barn with food, so hopefully you haven't seen the last of her.

Main thing she herself is OK.  The rest is a part of her fate, but as long she herself is OK, there is hope.

Succesfull semiferales  are tough above average, do have healing meat high above average and good immune system.   They must have, otherwise they would perish soon enough.

Either dying by themselves or taken by a predator when wobbling around sick.
