Hello,

This is my first time posting here and this is my first time having a cat.

I recently adopted a baby cat. Her mother was killed by a car (she was a street cat) and the vet I used to go contacted me to know if I wanted her (in this moment I don't have any other animals).

She was about 15 days old, I fed her milk, and she was growing properly and everything was good (the littler box using, and her evolution as a baby). I commented to the vet that sometimes she scratched her ears (not too much but still a little bit) and he saw that she had mites and we treated them.

When she was almost 2-months old I had to leave my house for about a week. Before adopting her I noticed the vet of this situation and a vet assistant (that before always appeared competent and to like animals a lot) offered to stay with her during that week.

When I called her everything was fine, but when I came back what I saw was:

- she had grown, but she was thin as I has never seen

- she had fleas (because she was put together with a cat that also came from the street, that was kind of weak, but was getting better, but had lots of fleas)

- she had diarrhoea

- she had a small conjunctivitis in one of her eyes

- she looked scarred, meowing a lot, and always wanted to be on our lap (she purred a lot in that period).

I was very sad to see her like that. The fleas (that were not that much) disappeared with treatment (about 4 treatments). As soon as she reached home, she started to eat like she was starving and she recovered her weight (she was so starving that she gained a little bit to much weight in my opinion). The conjunctivitis, with treatment, also disappeared.

About the diarrhoea it was more difficult. She took probiotics and a canned food adequate for her intestinal condition (which she loved) but it didn't stop. Only after two shots of antibiotic things got better (all of this happened during a two-week period).

But now, she almost doesn't eat anything. Nor the dry food that she used to like nor the canned food that she was fed because of the diarrhoea (the vet say to intercalate the dry and the canned food to make a smooth transition between the two food types, now that she was getting better). She plays around and jumps properly but during shorter periods that before, and she is sleeping way to much even for a kitten. She looks healthy and doesn't have a fever, only she doesn't eat properly.

The vet said that he doesn't know why this is happening because she looked healthy. He gave hear some vitamins (that are given to diseased animals or developing animals) and she loves to lick it, but she only grabs a little bit now and then of her real food. The drinking seems to be a little bit decreased.

When I took her to vet he didn't mention parasytes. But I think that I should refer it to him.

What do you think is happening with my baby?

I have thought about that. Today I'll return to the vet to ask about parasites or infection. Today I bought another brand of food, she ate a little bit but then she gave up. She already started to lose weight (not much yet, but still she is supposed to be growing...) :(

Update: I went to the vet and he thinks it may be Feline Infectious Anemia... He took some blood from her (although he couldn't take that much)... I'm waiting for the results. She still does not eat properly and is sleeping a lot.
