First of all, I have to start this by saying that, once again, we have six cats. IB (irresponsible brother) had taken three of them, Momma cat and two of the kittens when he moved out. About two weeks ago (give or take, I'm sure I posted something that will give a date), Momma cat had to come back because she wasn't doing well. Yesterday we got a frantic phone call from IB--it seems that his roommate's wife was mistreating the kittens. He asked if they could all come home, and we said yes, of course.

One of the kittens, Asia (we're working on getting the girls fixed; he hadn't gotten around to it), has a problem with her eye.

I'm sure she needs a vet. In fact, I'm positive she needs vet. However, we're between paychecks and things are really financially tight around here. Is there anything I can do? If not to clear this up then to at least keep it from spreading? Is it even contagious?

If its an URI keep her away from other cats and if you have or could get L-Lysine give her some every day and wipe her eye everyday

If she eats treats they have some in the L-lysine (like mentioned above) almost any pet store. I get my cats the powdered version from chewy for $14 to mix with their wet food. Also cat eye wipes come in soothing version that might make her feel better. I'm going through a similar situation with my kitten, but her eyes were just making nasty gunk. But that l-lysine does wonders!

In Europe we would boil chamomile tea and let that cool and use it to wash out eyes and it helps....very soothing. Google it.

I agree with those who suggested L-lysine.  My kitties get it every day to boost their immune systems.  I get the capsules with powder inside them.  I sprinkle the powder on their wet food and mix it in, and they never notice it's even there.
