So my kitty has been having very sticky pee, i looked it up and it says diabetes. I have a vet visit booked for the 16th, but im wondering if their is anything else it could maybe be. Shes hydraded (i did the neck thig, & added water too her wet food this morning) and she makes no noise while going to the bathroom also there have been no accidents anywhere. Shes only about a year and a 1/2 old and i have her on natures variety dry and a can of wet a day of fancy feast. Shes a good weight & overall healthy. Also if anyone has experience with a diabetic cat, how hard is it? Theres no way im giving her up. Just want to know what i may be getting into.

Stinky urine?  That is usually due to a higher concentration of urine if not hydrated or if they hold it for a long time.  I would call the vet's office and ask their advice and see if they think you need to bring her in sooner.

No, sticky urine in unregulated diabetics is caused by excess sugar the kidneys are excreting from the body. The urine will smell sugary, too. And there will be lots of huge urine clumps to scoop.

Diabetes in cats usually occurs in senior age cats. Juvenile diabetes can occur but rarely. Other typical symptoms are huge appetite and always hungry but losing weight at the same time. If the breath smells like nail polish remover that is an indication of a serious condition called diabetic keotacidosis which needs immediate vet treatment (this is not something to wait the next day to call the vet for an appointment sometime in the next week).

What itter do you use? Sometimes the litter is the problem and doesn't clump well so it seems that there's something wrong with the cat's urine.

FelineDiabetes.com is a good place to learn more and to get help. A low carb canned food only diet helps many diabetic cats. Fancy Feast Classic / Gourmet is fine but not all of the varieties are low carb. There's a list of the low carb ones on the Feline Diabetes web site but do double check with members of that board as the list is old and the ingredients may have changed since then. Nature's Variety Instinct is also low carb, but probably not the Pride line as those are in gravy.

I was talking to the vet twice today and thats the day they made the appointment for. We use purina maxx scoop for small spaces, but my roommates have a cat that tends to use our litter box, and his clumps seem normal. Shes young (about a year amd 1/2) and she seems perfectly healthy just the sticky pee is new. Her appitite went up but so has her weight. She was a rescue and really needed the weight gain. I personally dont think its dehydration because i add watter to her wet food and shes peeing 2 times a day min, also her neck sking is snapping back to place while pinched.
