My mom made the best chicken and rice I ever had, I just loved it.  Also her famous meatballs, no one ever came close to those delicious meatballs.  You would think I learned something from her but I never make meatballs, they are the worst so I stick to Italian sausage, now they come out great

My mom made a fantastic Quiche Lorraine, and my dad was really good at doing Flounder with Lemons and Capers.

Both are now specialties of my own home

Zeppoles. It was rare when my mom made them.. my dad and I would gang up on her, pestering her until she made them, lol.

For dinner, it was always her home made pasta sauce.

You must be Italian, I love, love love Zeppoles.  When I am down the Jersey Shore, I make sure to look for them.

my mom made the best macaroni and cheese, which i've never been able to make quite the same as she did. also, my mom's meatloaf. i love meatloaf, and especially look forward to the leftover meatloaf to make meatloaf sandwiches with. in fact, as an adult i make meatloaf specifically to cool and then make meatloaf sandwiches with. i like my meatloaf sandwiches with just a little margarine spread on the bread slices and thinly sliced meatloaf -- the margarine helps the meatloaf stay put in the sandwich.

My grandmother made the best apple and peach dumplings. She'd come down to spend a couple days with us and she'd make dumplings one of those days. That's what we had for dinner and that's all we had for dinner. Peach and apple dumplings with lots of milk and cinnamon. Yum.

Nobody could make pot pie like my grandmother....she had a knack for rolling out her dough just so. It was cut just so, and dropped into the simmering broth. It was so good.

I remember one snowy winter night (and I think I've spoken about this before). It was snowing like crazy and Dad had just gotten home from plowing snow at the hospital. Mom was making chicken and waffles for dinner and we three kids were watching an Abbott and Costello movie on tv. It was nice and warm in the house and Dad was home. He was reading the newspaper in his chair (that was back when you got the newspaper in the late afternoon). You could smell the chicken browning in the skillet and Mom was making the waffles. She had a hot milk sponge cake with chocolate frosting for dessert. And at that moment, life was good. I remember that night often.

Mmmmmm meatloaf. I swear I could happily have lived forever on my mother's meatloaf. I'm a mustard lover, so, like Judy, I do the mustard thing, too. Two slices of bread, slathered with mustard and loaded down with thick slices of Mom's meatloaf. I'm telling you, it was heaven.

Mom never used a loaf pan, nor did she ever bake her meatloaf. She always made two loaves at a time, she always hand-formed her meatloaves, and she always used her electric skillet to cook them. We ate one meatloaf for dinner. The second loaf was for meatloaf sandwiches. My, they were tasty. Dad used to take them to work in his lunch and we took them to school.

Nobody has ever made a meatloaf that was as good as Mom's.

my mom taught me about meatloaf sandwiches, and she did not like mustard. so i just have always used a little margarine in my meatloaf sandwiches, like my mom did.

my mom never used a loaf pan either, always hand-formed her meatloaf too. my mom baked her meatloaf.

it must have been around the time i was just starting my teens that my dad and brother told my mom to never make meatloaf again. we used to have meatloaf every monday, but then no meatloaf ever.

as an adult, i make meatloaf sometimes. i prefer the cold meatloaf sandwiches to the hot baked meatloaf.
