I'm kinda having a problem that's been going on for several weeks with my cat sleeping in the same position every day and not getting up for food or water. She did this for three weeks and lost half a kilo so I took her to the vet (i didn't take her sooner because i thought she was simply recovering from her cystitis and she was on painkillers that make you drowsy so i thought it was just an after effect) and the vet did a blood test and everything came back normal. Also i noticed her hobbling a bit and when i touched her paws she meowed. I concluded that there was something wrong her paws because she was walking a bit funny which was why she wasn't getting up to eat or drink. This week i've put her food and water next to her and enticing her to eat a lot more to put the weight back on and giving her lots of treats and she is eating more but she is still sleeping all day in the same spot and all night. usually she would go outside a few times a day and maybe come back in and nap a few times too but now its just sleep sleep sleep. Vet thought she didnt like prescription diet for her cystitis. That's all i got from him. but nothing about the sleeping, the lethargy, the back paws. She isnt meowing anymore when i touch her back paws but she's still not getting up so i'm not sure if they're hurting or not.

Do you have any insight into what could be going on/?

Thanks

Megan

You're right to be concerned.  I would take her to a different vet for a second opinion as something is obviously not right.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat not feeling well. She sounds like she's doing something similar to mine, sleeping a lot, not really interested in eating and not walking like normal. Definitely go to another vet. It's definitely not normal or a situation of "wait and see", and please update us when you find out anything. Best of luck with your kitty.

I agree with getting a second opinion from a different vet. Get all of the medical records from the current vet first, so that you don't have to pay for more blood work. Ask about arthritis while you there. That might explain the sensitivity with the paws (although cats generally hate having their paws touched unless you get them used it, so it is hard to say). All the best of luck to you and your kitty. I hope everything works out.
