Hello all.  I post some time ago about my two new stray female kittys.  there good and all healed!  now....for a odd good/bad news.

My dad (as I live with him)  has taken in a mommy and kitten.  I like to add befor we let them in the home mommy cat only had the one kitten with her for a week. got really cold and my dad let them in.

the kitten is now maybe 3 weeks old and we think the momma cat is maybe a year.  now we get that she will be in keep the kitten safe mode.  she runs off and hiss at my two females.  one the cats (susa) comes near more and more every day.....and at times gets run off. now my black cat (Renee) only hides in my dads room.  she only comes out when we take her out and she will stay out for a bit....till momma shows up or even the kitten, Renee will hiss at them and run away to my dads room.

we are going to have the two new cats fixed just the little one only 3 weeks....think I read has to be 6-7 weeks before getting her fixed.

what I like to know will there be better odds of all the cats getting along when there fixed and momma not on kitten safety mode?  there some tips I can have in keeping all 4 of them calm?  I wish to keep all 4 of them!

how can you say no to this level of cute!  I need help!

Yes, exaclty.  It will surely be better, when the kitten is bigger,  and even better when all adults are spayed.

As the mom IS protective,as she shall be,  and the cats arent best friends, its wise you separate them.  Ie not let your residents into the room of the mom and her kitten.

This way, the mom will be easier socialized too.  Stress in not good for deep learning.

Dont let the mom go outside the house - she may be in heat, and thus become pregnant again... Its quickly done.

The age for spaying is at earliest 8 weeks, but 10-12 weeks is better.

Core vaccine + rabies vaccine.  No other vaccines are recommended unless really necessary.

And deworming of course.

You may have introduced them a little too quickly.  Were mom and kitten in their own space for a bit before they met the other two?  If not, their meeting one another may have been too quick for their comfort.  Cats need time to adjust to new situations.

Having said that, you can fix it.  If possible, put mom and kitten in their own room - a spare bedroom is ideal.  Let them establish their own territory until they are comfortable.  The other two kitties can have the rest of the house.

After a couple of weeks, place a screen door on the door of the room.  This will allow all the cats to interact without being able to get to one another.  After a week or so, open the door and allow them to mix.  Stay close in case of a dust-up.

If all of this is too much, just try to give each cat an area where he or she can establish his/her own territory.  Have one litter box for each cat, plus an extra (that's five regular sized boxes).  Scatter them around the house and try to have escape routes from each, as sometimes cats will ambush each other while they are busy doing their business.

You are wonderful for taking this on and very wise to get everyone spayed/neutered.  good luck!
