Sorry people but my cat gets mad and does pee in my bathroom!  She goes to the vet and is fine for months and than she gets irritated about something and is upset.  We have had a dog for several months now (she did this long before he came around) and now all of the sudden she has started again.  I've tried sprays and cleaned with peroxide and vinegar....................nothing works.

I'll have to disagree with you too. I'd assume your cat is feeling threatened or stressed, so she'll pee to get her scent in where she feels threatened to make herself feel better. It's why some scared kitties will hide in their litterboxes - it smells like them!

Getting a dog is also like having your territory threatened and can make a cat want to mark.

If the vet says your cat doesn't have any urinary problems you might want to look into what is threatening your cat. Maybe she sees animals outside, or her litterbox isn't what she likes, or it just might be the dog so you may have to provide a safe tall place for her to hide

I'm still going to disagree.  My cat has done this from time to time (yrs before the dog and trust me the dog is scared of her).  She is not threaten in anyway.  She hisses when you try and pet her and yet will rub up against you all within a matter of seconds.  She goes to the vet and there are no issues with her.

If she's hissing at you, then at that moment she is feeling stressed/anxious/threatened. It clearly passes quickly if she'll rub up against you shortly after. That combination indicates that she's feeling confused and unsettled - and very like insecure from the introduction of the dog. Her history of peeing issues indicates that she's probably a bit of a stress - head anyway. Try using Feliway diffusers, and maybe Composure liquid or treats too. If you can reduce her stress levels the peeing will most likely resolve itself.

Would you be willing to put a litterbox in the bathroom? To me it sounds that she is stressed and easily stressed at that. Where is her main litterbox located and how many times a day do you clean it?

Thanks for your comment.  You can pet her (this is even when we lived alone together) and all of the sudden she didn't want to be petted anymore will hiss and spit.  As for being a stress head, I would agree.  I've tried the diffuser spray and it did not work.  I did try some liquid that you put drops into her water bowl and maybe I didn't continue with long enough.  She has been on the same sofa or bed with the dog sleeping and she is fine.  I really mean the dog is scared to death of her.  If the cat and dog meet on the stairs the runs the other way.  Just tonight she kind of charged him hissing and he came running to me.  Our dog is very cat friendly.  Just really frustrated after 6 almost 7 yrs that her behavior has been the same.

I use to have her litter box in the bathroom and she would pee right next to it.  Yes, it was clean!  :-)

Her litter box is now in the laundry room (for months now).  She has been fine for months and all the sudden started again.

It could be she had a very bad experience with a dog and she fears them, so she chases him, by any chance can you keep them both separate?

She has her own room that the dog isn't allowed in and honestly he avoids her as much as he can.

Just so everyone knows.....I've had cats before.  I've been around animals all my life.  Cows, chickens, dogs, cats, horses, pigs,  lizards, snakes,fish....It's not like I'm not an animal person.

I'm not sure that her mother wasn't a feral cat...would make a difference?  My son brought her home to me one night because he knew I wanted a cat.  I won't give up on her or give her away.....she has a furever home.

Why start this post so defensive? The people giving advice on cat behavior, suggesting she may do what she is doing , not to offend you, but as a normal behavioral response to something in her environment, are not trying to blame you....just trying to help you find the answer to a problem that it seems both you and your cat may be having....

Cats do get angry like all mammals but they don't pee to show this.  Peeing is a call for help!  Something is really wrong.

I have a cat who gets UTI flare-ups whenever she's stressed. Maybe your cat needs to see a vet? It could be that whatever makes her angry also stresses her out and she's in pain. Bladder infections can be very painful, so please don't let this go on for too long.

It's absolutely worth a vet check - just like people, a cat's health can and does change. It's always a great idea to rule out physical causes.

With Feliway - a lot of people have different results depending on whether they use the spray or the plug ins. It's definitely worth trying whichever version you haven't tried to see if you get a better response.

She does sound a nervous cat, some cats, like people, just are highly strung and maybe see problems where there aren't any. If she hisses at the dog on the stairs, she obviously feels threatened there. She does not know he is scared of her. On hissing when being petted, some cats have very sensitive nerves and cannot take more than a few minutes of petting - it stimulates the nerves to almost pain level. she is just telling you she has had enough for the moment, though she may come back a little later for more. If she pees next to her litter tray, she may be one of those cats who tries to pee in it, but manages to stick their butt out over the edge. A larger tray can help, or even two trays next to each other. You can also put the tray inside a much larger shallow plastic box. Just a few ideas but I know how frustrating it can be, I have two cats who tend to pee rather randomly and it is a case of trying to keep ahead of them all the time.
