Hey there! I need some advice.. I have a cat that has really bad dermatitis. Starting around this time of year through autumn, his skin gets so bad and crusty. He is obsessively scratching and pulling out his hair. It's not from fleas, the vet already determined that. I've spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at vets and they can't seem to figure out what is wrong with him. They think it's just environmental. They wanted me to keep him pumped full of steroids and amatryptiline. I don't like the idea of him being on drugs. I've tried the Jackson Galaxy spirit essences with no luck. I have another cat who had the same problem until I started putting fish oil and coconut oil in her food. It has done wonders for her. The problem with this little guy is that he does not eat can food... ever... I've tried and tried and he just does not like wet food. He will on occasion drink tuna water. He won't eat the tuna but it will drink the water. But even that is hit or miss. I'm desperate for any advice on how to get him to eat the canned food so I can add the fish and coconut oil in it. I've tried putting the fish oil on his skin but he already grooms obsessively and gets hair balls (he's medium hair) so I hate to do anything to make him groom even more. I bathe him once a week in an omega 3 shampoo from the vet and it helps but only temporarily. I really need to find a way to get the fish and coconut oil in his body. Help!!

What food is he eating now? Can you try buying a little carton of Whiskas cat milk and putting the oils in it instead? Also it sounds since it comes in the autumn that it may be a mold allergy, can you try asking your vet if you can give your cat half of a 10mg Zrytec tablet? It is safe for cats, one of mine has seasonal allergies and he gets a half tablet in the morning and a half tablet in the evening. 1 whole tablet total.

I tried catsip which I think is similar to the whiskas milk right? He wasn't too interested. He's so weird, the other cats love catsip and canned food but this one doesn't want any part of it. I will ask about Zyrtec. She said I could try half a benadryl but he goes banana when I try to get one in his mouth bc it makes him slobber.

Oh, and the dry food that he eats is Purina Naturals. He loves that stuff.

Okay, have you tried Fancy Feast Kitten canned food in Turkey Feast? I've not had a cat turn it down yet. The Purina Naturals is not a bad food. Another thing you might try is the Whiskas soft temptatiosn treat or some other small treat which you can crumble and then pack his tablet in. He might eat it then.

I've tried quite a few fancy feast flavors but in not sure if I tried the turkey. I'll give that a whirl. Thanks for your suggestions. If all else fails I wonder if I could try to mix the fish oil in some cat food broth and use a syringe to give it to him. He was very sick as a baby and almost died and he got very accustomed to being force fed.
