Hi everyone I have four 4 week old kittens and I was wondering what is the best litter for them? Right now they have Johnny Cat non clumping litter. Please give advice on which is best.

Anything non-clumping and unscented is good for kittens.  They tend to eat litter for the first few times they discover it and clumping can cause intestinal problems.  I actually use sandbox sand purchased at WalMart or Home Depot garden department to start them out, and I put tiny litter boxes in each corner, in addition to having mama's litter box in the room, because kittens have a tendency to seek out corners to pee and poop.  I don't usually start them at 4 weeks because until they are eating solid food, mama takes care of the toiletry, or if they are orphans, I take care of the toiletry with wet cotton balls to stimulate and clean them.  When "training" orphans, I put them in the box right after a feeding once they are getting some solid food and stimulate them with the wet cotton ball while they are in the box.

Thanks for the advice I will try that, but also I just found out that the mother cat is somehow back in heat!!! We have her in the room with the kittens still. What should I do? There are no openings to the outside so she can't get pregnant again!! The meowing and "calling" is very annoying!

Yes, it is extremely annoying. It will last about a week. Take some time to pet her and play with her with an inter-active toy to distract her and help her to burn some energy. The nursing helps her to feel better too.

It is good that she cannot get out. She may have another heat cycle before long also. You will need to decide when to spay her. Ideally it is a couple of weeks after the kittens wean, but that will be a few more weeks.

My cat had her first post-pregnancy heat when her kittens were 7 weeks old. A week later, when her heat cycle was winding down, I had her spayed. The vet was careful to cut between her mammary glands. The kittens were already eating on their own, but also still nursing a bit.

Your kittens should begin to be introduced to soft foods this week, such as Fancy Feast kitten wet food, and moistened kitten chow. They will continue to nurse, but they will start to wean over the next few weeks. It would be best to wait to spay mama a few more weeks, but this means tolerating probably another heat cycle after this one. Now is too soon though. :)
