So our little Tony is doing tremendously well! He's a little barn kitten that warmed up to us after on a few hours of being in his new home. He eats plenty of wet grain free food mixed with water and poops quite often.

His poops were pudding like and I was a tad concerned and I also wanted to make sure I had a vet check on the books for when he was big enough (he's about 7 weeks).

It is bull checking seasons in cow country USA where I live so every single vet is up to their ears in work, but the vet was nice enough to speak with me on the phone while she had a moment of down time. She didn't have time to see the kitten this week but said that the poops were somewhat normal sounding and that the kitten probably had worms and that if I had kitten dewormer that I should give him a dose now and that she would assess the problem in a week or so when he came in for his check up....

So I gave him sergeants dewormer (the only dewormer we could find at a store here!) and 2 days later... WIGGLY WORM IN POOP!!!!

It's like a tiny tiny white centipede that is curled into a semi circle.

My questions are...

Um, this worm should be dead right?!?!

My kitten has 0 side effects (hungry and hyper) but his poop is soft?

Did I make a horrible horrible mistake? I dosed everything perfectly. The package says not to deworm more than twice a year but... If they are still alive do I give him another dose?!

Kitty has a vet appointment next week. do I just
Take deap breaths and wait?!

It takes at least a couple of day for any dewormer to work. Follow the instructions on the box for dosing. Some may need to be a few times spaced X number of days apart for the product to work to kill all the life stages of a worm. Eggs / larvae may be killed after one dose but adult worms may take a few doses.

Is this the product you are using? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=26264

Most people here feel that OTC dewormers don't work very well if at all. A prescription one is best. You can call you regular vet and ask for one or for a prescription so you can buy one online.

Yes that is the product! I'm taking him in next week and hopefully she will give me the good stuff. For now he's a very happy (but probably very wormy) kitten with a little belly.

I gave him the dewormer Wednesday night and I guess early this morning he passed this worm (I woke up and saw it).
