I had pre-neutering blood tests done on my 6month old male cat, Rasta. The results came back and vet recommended to reschedule next week, saying my cat is 'pale and has infection'. The bloodtest result shows his white blood cell count is high and platelet is low. The vet did not elaborate on what kind of infection my cat have but she prescribed Co-amoxiclav (antibiotic) and Polynerv (vitamin) to be administered for 1 week... She also said the infection could be because the cat has never been dewormed, so I took Rasta (my cat) to the vet for deworming this morning.

Now, my concern is, is it safe to administer these medications right after I had the cat dewormed? and will it be safe that we have the neutering scheduled a week after these medications are taken? the vet told me its OK, and the vet that dewormed my cat also said- its OK, but I'm just a little hesitant. I know they are professionals and that they know best but i just want to get a little insight how these medicines could affect the health of my cat, and i guess I just want to be assured Rasta can process all of those medications in that short period... and still be fit for neuter next week...

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help :)

YES, it is safe.  Amoxicillin/Clavulen combo antibiotic is very safe and has been used for years and years, still one of the best go-to general antibiotics in the cabinet.  Your cat should also be wormed a second time in two weeks, the reason being that the dewormer kills the adult worms but not the eggs, and the second worming will kill any young worms that have hatched since the last worming before they can mature and make more eggs. The general wormer used for this is also very safe.  I applaud you for your caution in getting presurgical blood work done on your cat and discovering this infection.  You are a wonderful cat mama!

Hey thanks so much! :)

Rasta's shown improvement too, he used to have these eye discharge (I have to wipe his eyes about 1-2 times a day) and now its gone- so I'm thinking he's cured of the infection now.

He is scheduled for neuter tomorrow, so I'm a nervous wreck! lol anyway, I'll follow your advice on his second deworming (might have to wait until he recovers from neuter surgery probably next month, and will take note of the second deworming right after the 2nd week)

Thanks again!
