Can you share your experiences with fostering?

I'm working on a piece about fostering cats. If you ever fostered, can you please share in this thread -

1. When did you start fostering and how much fostering you've done so far.

2. Do you foster through a rescue or shelter?

3. What would you say is the biggest challenge in fostering? (I'm looking for variety here, so if others have mentioned your biggest challenge and you wish to focus on another challenge that would be great  ).

4. What's the thing you most enjoy about fostering?

5. If you have a memorable story to share of a particular foster cat, please do! Something along the lines of "The foster cat I'll never forget was... "

I've fostered about 50 kittens and cats.  Many were strays; some were from feral colonies that were being TNRd.  I loved fostering but had to quit.  The people I  was fostering for didn't help me when it was time to find homes for them.  I ended up working with, and making large donations to, a no-kill shelter to find them homes.

The fostering itself was always wonderful.  Seeing scared, disoriented kittens become purring lovebugs was truly miraculous.

My best foster was named Camille.  She was found on the side of the road, eyes gooey, pretty much starving to death.  We thought she was about 5 weeks old; she ended up being closer to 8 weeks.  That poor kitten went through hell and turned into the sweetest, most loving cat.  She actually won over Teresa (our Torti who has her own room because she hates cats.)  Teresa heard Camille crying one night and got into the bathroom, where Camille was.  The next morning, I found them cuddled together with Teresa grooming Camille gently.  I burst out crying and still regret I didn't get to the camera in time.

Camille found a lovely home with two little girls who love to dress her in baby clothes.  She doesn't mind at all!
