I dabbed my daughter`s cat`s eye with a warm wet cloth after he woke up because it was stuck shut. It is not a yellow-green pus like discharge. He is an adult about 3-4 yrs old. We got him a little female play mate and they tumble and wrestle. I am just wondering if he possibly got his eyeball scratched playing with her. And if this is the case how long will it take to heal?_____Thank You all for any response on this. Charles

Your cat needs an antibiotic eye ointment like terramycin for the eye with yellow-green pus to get better. You will need to take the cat to the vet to be treated or it will get worse. It may have been scratched but the pus indicates infection.

I think the OP said it is not pus that is coming out. Or is this a typo? Apart from gently washing the eye with tepid water and sterile cotton, I would not attempt any further treatment at home. If the eye opens all right and seems normal after 24 hours, then there is nothing to worry about, but if it is weeping, red or inflamed in any way take the cat to a vet. And certainly if it pus. It will probably need antibiotics.

I believe he meant now rather than not. At least that's the way I read it. Hopefully we'll hear back soon. :)
