my old cats had a hooded tray to keep the dogs out as my dogs love cat poo the grose things lol

i have looked at hooded ones, ones you roll in some way or another to sive out the poo, i have also looked at the litter quitter which i would like to get when they are older but wodnering what people have found is best till i get them on the toilet lol xxx

Litter boxes will depend on you cats and your preference.

In our house general preference from the cats is a covered pan.  We also have one cat who pees standing up, so I need something with a really high back, otherwise the urine drips out of the edges.  I also have one large cat who requires a jumbo sized pan so he doesn't look like a ballerina in the box (dancing around on his tiptoes trying to stay in there)

I have this one, and it is my favourite litter pan to date, having tried a lot of them.  I like the size, the high back, and the fact that the back is rounded makes scooping so much easier.  http://www.petsmart.ca/supplies-tra...tionCacheKey=NULL|Sage+&+Tan|&_t=pfm=category

A lot of people swear by plastic tubs with notches cut out of the short side.  I've done it, and it sure does do the job (and is cheaper so you can replace it more often when it gets all scratched up and bacteria sticks around).  Here's an example of one like the one I did.  I wouldn't do a clear plastic though, they're easier to crack when cutting.

Depending on the size of the dog, when the babies are big enough, a lot of people are quite happy having/making these top loading ones.  http://www.petsmart.ca/cat/litter-b...-catid-200094?var_id=36-23038&_t=pfm=category

For now though, make sure the babies can easily get into whatever you buy.

I personally wouldn't get the rolling one, because the rolling mechanism takes up a lot of space on the inside.  I've also heard the clumps sometimes stick on the grate on the inside.

Hope that helps.

3 of the 5 boxes that I have are hooded. The 2 that aren't are in my foster kitty's room. He's the only one that uses those. My 2 girl cats go in and out of his room all day but don't like his litter boxes which is fine by him.

I know what you about "cat created dog treats". one of my cats threw up the other day because he had eaten too fast. in the time it took me to go get a bag and some paper towels to try to clean it up, the dog beat me to it and gobbled up every drop like it was filet mignon.

dogs are do disgusting compaired to cats, my cats like to poo when i sit down to eat so i chuck the tray in the other room for 10 minutes while i finnish my food and if the dogs arent shut away when i come back to the litter tray the little cat nuggets have all magically disappeared haha

I can't imagine having a hooded litter box. I don't want my cats to smell the intense odors, especially during the warm months.

I agree that it depends on your cats what type of box is best.

I have all open boxes (most are Nature's Miracle corner boxes).

I'm kind of on the same page as kitlit in that I don't want my cats to have to be contained in the box with the odor. I also don't want them smelling like litter box (I also use fragrance-free, unscented litter). I have a large multi-cat household and scoop boxes 3+ times a day. I also like having standard boxes so I can tell if a box needs an extra cleaning throughout the day.

I also have dogs, but they do not have access to the rooms that the boxes are in. So, I don't have to worry about poop eater.

Mogli will only use a covered litter box, but the first thing I do with a new box is throw out the flap and filter so odors aren't trapped. The bigger the box, the better.

Several months ago the head of the shelter I volunteer at asked us to make note of which litter boxes were being used the most, as she needed to order more. The cat rooms have several different brands and types. While a few cats only used open boxes, this one won hands down: http://www.shop4petsupplies.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=38111
