Radial Nerve Damage

I rescued a kitten last week who was in the middle of a busy highway and was hit by a car. I ran into the road and grabbed him and took him to the vet. His front left leg appeared injured and he wouldn't use it. After 10 days of suggested crate time and limiting his movement we went back for a checkup. He apparently has radial nerve damage. He gets around very well but uses his elbow as his wrist stays bent. The vet says the best thing is to amputate but I hate to do that if there is a chance it could get better. Anyone have any suggestions or experienced this with their cats?

bumping this up in case someone missed this.

The only thing I can tell you is that three legged cats don't seem to have much problem getting around.  And especially if this is done as a kitten, he'll probably get used to it very quickly and not even know it's missing soon enough.  BUT, I might get a 2nd opinion before doing it, since that's something I would definitely do if he were human!  Why not give a cat the same benefit?
