Hi Folks:

This question has probably been asked and answered before, but here goes:

Is there a safe, all-encompassing worm medicine that I can purchase and administer to my boys?  Shadow has worms, so I know his brother does too.  Other than my vet, we have Tractor Supply, and nearby about 30 miles away are Petco and Petsmart.

Thanks!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
No. OTC wormers cause the cat to expel the live worms, they don't resolve the problem at all. You can purchase dewormers meant for farm animals and convert to doses for cats. There are those familiar with this. @Willowy?

There are different wormers for different types of worms. Liquids and pills. They are somewhat pricey at petsmart. Depending on age of cat. Reveloution cost me about 17 at my vet per cat and it does worms, ticks, fleas and ear mites. When the kittens were young the vet gave them a paste wormer because they were born to a feral mother. The name was something like Dronzit. I find it better to let the vet worm because I could spend money and not even treat the right worm. The tape worm med was 25 for 6 pills at petsmart and if cat has any weight I think you have to give 2 pills.

I went to the vet today and got the Revolution--which they had been initially started on when I first got the boys.  Our vet is expensive--$20 per ampule, and when one has two boys, it can get pricey.  I had used other products since then, but wasn't as satisfied.  I also got de-wormer from the vet for them, so I think everything should be covered.  I know the main problem is flea control, but when one is in Florida and the yard is large--3 acres+-, and a sandhill to boot, it is a challenge.

I have 3 boys and 1 girl. I live in Michigan. I only treat in the summer. Mine are indoor only, but I feed ferals. I put Advantage on the ferals last year. The year before I did not get the topical on my ferals and I brought fleas inside. What a nightmare. Capstar, Reveloution, Shampooing my cats everyother day, shampooing carpet and furniture, trip to the laundrymat so I could use industrial washers to treat every piece of fabric in house and drapperies. Never want to do that again. I love the Reveloution and if I treat ahead I save myself a big headache later.

I know.  I have a 'sanitize' option on my washer, which gives really hot water, and I throw in a little bleach.  But these are indoor/outdoor cats, so flea control is a challenge.
