I understand male cats can go in heat but my problem is I always had two cats one is four years old and the other is one. But yesterday they started to fight and the young one is going around meowing like mad, tail sick in the air and the older one is fixed but they always got along. They played and used to lay down together. But now when they see each other war breaks out. Could it be one is in heat. The one year old is not fixed is that the problem

Hi Clarke:

Welcome to the forum.

Are you sure the one year old IS male?  I had a very long haired cat that I thought was a female until I took him to the  vet.  (By then he had been named Princess, and it was too late to change it to something else--even Prince.)   Then more recently, when I adopted my two boys, I thought one was female, until I took them to the vet.  In this case, the testicles had not fully descended.

What you are describing sounds like typical heat.  But I would take him/her to the vet tomorrow for a thorough check-up.  There may be a medical condition developing that is causing this.

Good wishes for you.

Male cats do not go into heat cycles. However, the fact that the younger it a year old and has reached maturity is likely the cause for the issues. Best to schedule him to be neutered ASAP. It can take up to 60 days for all the hormones to get out of his system.

If the cats start to get into more frequent fights or the fights are aggressive, best to separate them, have the younger neutered, and then do a reintroduction about 2 weeks after the younger is neutered.

CatPack was posting at the same time I was.  Definitely follow the above advice.

Agreed with catpack, officially male cats do not go into heat like a female would, nothing to do that with, but since he is a mature cat, he is going to want to get out, fight, spray, because he is an un-neutered male.
