Need some advice.  A family 2 houses from me moved out and left their cat behind. They have been gone a week now so they are not coming back for it.  I would guess it's fully grown and I believe it is a male.  One neighbor has been feeding him but not sure if it has been every day.

He is a friendly cat and has always been an inside cat since none of us knew they even had one.  I would take it in but I already have one dog and recently took in a 5 week old kitten.  I am torn as to where to bring him assuming I can catch him and get him in a carrier.  Some people said no shelter and contact a rescue group.  I've contacted one group and waiting for a return phone call.  It is getting hot outside and I am worried about the cat.

Thank you for any advice

You can see if the local Humane Society will take him? I think if you can go over and get him, bring him inside, put him in a spare room to keep him safe until you can get someone to take him would be good, since he may not be streetsmart or he may be declawed.

If he is a house cat, or socialized, he might actually be a role model for that little kitten. My male cat used to nurture my little kitten, and was able to learn something about cat behavior. If your dog is accepting the kitten, he might be open to the cat. That is a very sad and irresponsible thing those neighbors did, and especially if he was declawed, and now defenseless! Do you think the other neighbor would be willing to take the cat? It does not hurt to inquire.

The neighbor is allergic to cats.  I hear what you are saying but it's just not possible to take the cat in.

Okay, can you call around and see if any local humane society, vet clinic or any place will take him in if you catch him?
