I rescued a kitten on Thursday she wasn't doing well this morning so i took her to the vet. My normal vet was closed so i took her to another close vet. They gave her medication for Coccidia. The vet insisted on combo testing her. Well she was faint positive for FeLV. This is a kitten that was found sitting in the middle of traffic on a busy road. She is only 1lb and 4wks. The vet wants me to bring her back in 2wks to retest. She explained that false positives almost never happen for FeLV only FIV. I had always been told to not even bother to test until spay but she insisted so i gave in. Well i have 3 other cats at home. One of there's FeLV vaccines expired in March. I will be taking her to MY vet but is that correct on the test result? I absolutely adore this kitten and don't want to loose her so soon.

Are you asking if it's correct that they should be tested before their spay?  IMHO, they should be tested as soon as you bring them into your home, and if they are too young to neuter at that time, then they should stil be checked out thoroughly, just for this type of event

Let's just hope this is one of those rare cases where it IS a false positive.  Otherwise, it IS possible for this little one to co-exist in your multicat household, but it might not be so easy since she is such a young one and will want to be in the middle of everything.  You would need to feed and water her out of  separate dishes, for sure, and clean out the litter boxes as soon as she has used them.  Mutual grooming could be an issue though

Fingers crossed the test results are wrong

My hope here is whats my chances of the test being false positive. She is only 4 weeks old at this point. The test was faint +. Her little eyes are still blue.

Well, at such a young age, she probably isn't sharing dishes or litterboxes with your other cats anyway right? You can keep her separate from them for now and retest when she's a bit older. I don't know what the chances are for a false positive but hopefully that first test was wrong.
