The vet gave me a syringe and some charcoal "litter' to get a urine sample. after 10 days on baytril for UTI. How do you get your cat to pee in the box? I gave him the last pill thursday night and tried to get him to go in the box yesterday. But no luck.  he is kinds acting like he did the first day I took him in. I went and gave him Alprazolan to see if that would help. I only gave him that and the Amitriptyline on the first day. It made half of him wired and the other half drowsy. he wouldnt sleep for hours, but he had trouble walking with his back legs. We have more then one cat. but do you see blood in the litter, if there is blood in his urine?  The one time he was in the litter box. I didnt see that he had gone any.  he seems ok since giving him the Alprazolan, but walks around crying like he is hungry or lost.

I went and bought a bunch more can food, I really need to feed them ALL wet. Not sure I can swing it with multiples.

Any advice on dealing with a cat with a UTI? This is his first one. They say it was probably from stress and i dont know what caused it or how to rid of that. :( I need to get a sample, or may have to take him in which is 45 minutes away.

Put the cat in one room for a day with a litter box, food, water, etc. Use a brand new clean litter box and instead of litter, put a layer of fish tank gravel / pebbles (rinsed to remove any dust and stuff) or decorative pebbles for flower vases in. When the cat pees, the urine won't be absorbed so you can the tip the box to pool up the urine in a corner and then transfer it to a container.

Some people are able to stick a long handled soup ladel under the cat as the cat is peeing and catch pee that way.

The vet can also try to get a sterile urine sample by cystocensis. A needle is inserted through the abdomen into the bladder and urine is removed. An ultrasound may be needed to help the vet find the bladder.
