I am caring for an orphaned kitten she was born on May 27th she is only a couple days old I believe I am on the right track because she seems to be eating well (every 3 hours) and she is using the bathroom. I have her housed in a box half of which has a heating pad I keep on medium low so it doesn't get hot and the other half of the box I have soft towel she roams the box and sleeps on either side. I need assistants on if I am doing things right and if there is anything thing else I should be doing?? I have a pregnant cat in the household I was hoping would have her litter soon so that maybe she would take the orphaned baby in but so far while still pregnant she shows no interest in the kitten.

If she is still alive, and seems OK by everything you can see, you are surely doing it very nicely.

A stuffed animal - companion may be useful.   And you trying to give her love and human warmth cant hurt.   fleece is nice for them, seems almost like moms fur.

The food need is, about 8ml krm or goat milk /Oz =30g, / day.  So  a kitten of 90 grammes, 3x8 needs 24 ml a day.  Every 3 hours, 8 feedings, makes 3ml at one time, so far. It will be of course more as she is adding.   She shall add 6+ grammes, if smallish, 8-10 grammes if normal sized kitten, a day.

What exact kmr do you use?

Do you use bottle or a syringe?

Some links added.  Please come back with reports, and further questions.

A friend of mine brought her to me and with her goats milk so as of now she is on goats milk and I am using a bottle to feed her with. She seems to be ok in size I'm not real sure what is considered to small with baby kittens. She becomes vocal every 3 hours and that's when I feed her help her go to the bathroom as well as cuddling time she seems to be very content. Should I keep her on the goat milk or switch her to something else? I've looked at site after site which all say different things

Goat milk works nicely.  Raw goat milk is best, if you can get it, but other sorts works too, as long they are full fat, ie about 3%.  No low fat versions for kittens.

It sounds as though you are managing the baby very nicely so far! :). If the kittens are born soon and the litter is not too big, you can surely try to add her to mama cat a day or two after they all settle in well. A little stuffed animal does make for a nice cuddle, as Stefan suggested. Just keep feeding the baby as much as it wants. It may begin to want more sooner as it grows. Keep posting updates and good luck! :)

Update on the kitten she started purring yesterday and now does it at every feeding just so sweet. She has started to eat more now at each feeding then before which makes me feel even better because she is growing and seems to be on the right track. I have been keeping a journal on each feeding marking when she goes to the bathroom and such so that I will notice immediately if there is change I should concern myself with. This site has been a huge help

This is so wonderful to hear! So glad the baby is eating well and purring! What a relief! The journal to keep track of feedings and pottying is a great idea! :)

No, they can take longer to open their eyes. What you hear is average. They will open soon! Do not force them though. :)

Of course not but I have been lightly wiping them with a warm cotton ball when I "bathe" her every so often I take a warm cotton ball and clean her little body like I suppose a mama cat would do

The little bath like mama would do is great! I'm sure it is comforting to the kitten. :)

Yes, you can add a few drops of either mineral oil or olive oil to her bottle. This usually works fairly quickly, and eliminates the need to water down her milk. Let us know how it goes! :)

How long has it been since he pooped? You can try one more thing. Buy infant glycerin suppositories at the pharmacy, and shave off a tiny piece. Insert it in his rear and leave it. This should eventually help him go. Let us know if this helps.

Okay, I would try the glycerin suppository then. Just a little piece sized just right for him though.

Also, since he is only barely 2 weeks old and only on formula, he may not poop after every single feeding, but you do need to continue stimulating after each feeding.

About how often should she be going? Also something I have been considering since she is having problems with going to the bathroom should I still be waking her up every 3 hours to feed or should I let her wake up on her on and feed on demand??
