Well, Darcy's behavior has changed a bit this week. He's now become less tolerant of petting. Usually we have our cuddle sessions in the morning when I wake up and before I go to bed. He'll lay on me and enjoy being stroked. He's always been a bit cheeky in other locations, if he's on his cat tree he might decide he wants to play-swat at you. Same if he's lying on the floor, it's 50/50 most times. Usually I can gauge when he he wants to be pet or not in those situations. A couple of times now he has tried to grab my hand and bite it (playfully) on the bed while I pet him. But the weird thing is he shows no warning before he does it. One instance he was trying to get me to keep stroking him by nudging my hand with his forehead.  So when I did he immediately grabbed it and bit it! No tail swishing, no ears back, nothing.

When he's relaxing in other locations I know when he's feeling mischievous, usually he'll stare at me, sometimes he'll even whine a bit. But on the bed he doesn't even do that to warn me!  My husband gave him a pet today while he was on my stomach , his eyes were closed and he seemed to be enjoying it but I told the hubbie to stop simply because of Darcy's new habit. He kept going and sure enough the eyes opened and the paws came out to grab his hand. He used to be such a lap cat when we first got him a few months ago and he used to simply hop off your lap if he had enough attention. Now he's acting like a different cat. He still wants attention but then acts so weird if we give him it! He's approaching 9 months so I'm hoping this is just a phase he's going through. The good thing is that it doesn't seem to be aggressive, the bites don't break the skin. We play with him a lot to get rid of his energy too , never using our hands and making sure it's only toys he attacks. Any advice would be great, thanks!

Just seeing this post.   Is Darcy behaving normally otherwise--eating, peeing and pooping okay?  Sometimes cats' behavior changes when they don't feel good.
