A few months ago I rescued a stray who turned out to be FIV positive. He has always had a good appetite and seemed quite healthy up until a few days ago. He barely eats anything, I have tried dry food, wet food, egg yolk, salami such as bologne yet he barely eats any of it. He has an unsteady gait and all he does is sleep all day. He has been drinking water. Is there any natural remedies that I can try to give him and what diet is best for a cat with fiv.

Did your Vet not give you any information about what do to?   I understand that FIV cats commonly have dental issues.  If he is suddenly not wanting to eat, have you checked his mouth to see if everything looks normal in there, or did the Vet check?  If you haven't taken him in lately, maybe he needs to go in again to make sure he doesn't have something else going on like some sort of infection or something.

If he's not eating, it's no wonder that he's sleeping all day...he probably doesn't have much energy from lack of fuel, however, he can't go long without that much needed food.

I don't really know much about FIV, but here is a thread that one of our long time members started about HER FIV cat:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/259351/how-i-am-treating-chumleys-fiv.  Maybe you'll find it helpful

We did not get much info since we originally took him to the humane society because we weren't planning on getting a new pet but they called us back and told us that they couldn't adopt him out since he could infect other cats so the only choice was for us to take him back and they didn't tell us much about it. Thanks for the link, we are taking him to the vet tomorrow any other tips?

It's imperative that he gets food in him.  Try tuna, or tuna water poured over some of the canned food you have for him.  Try deli turkey, or try baby food, chicken, beef, turkey or ham, stage 2,  I think it is.  Just the meat, NO onions or seasonings in it.  That usually will get cats to eat a little.  You can try using parmesan cheese (from the green can) as a topper if nothing else is working.  Other than that, you may need to force feed him by using a needleless syringe and watering down some pate cat food (or baby food).  Slowly syringe it into the side of his mouth giving him time to swallow as you go along.

Hoping your Vet can figure out what's going on and get him feeling better
