Pretend that this is, uh, FOR SCIENCE!

Does your spouse or significant other wear fragrances like cologne? If so, what are some of your favorite brands like?

What about facial hair (assuming well maintained)? Yay or nay?

DH doesn't wear cologne; but he uses a scented deodorant that I just love.  It's Swagger from Old Spice.  He uses some of the other scents; but that is my favorite.

Facial hair really depends on the guy.  I love when DH looks scruffy; but he doesn't like it and he has to be clean shaven for work.  Some guys can pull off different looks; some can't.  Especially the mustache.  My Step-dad has always had at least a mustache.  He does sometimes let it grow to a goatee.  He can "do" facial hair.  I can't see DH with those.  Some of my friend's husbands do the no-shave month or the thing where you grow a mustache.  Most cannot pull it off and my friends seem to all hate it too.

No fragrances - for some people it's worse than being around cigarette smoke. I have severe asthma and one of the main triggers is chemicals including some perfumes. It makes for a miserable time if I get on an elevator with a perfumed person. Much worse is if I'm on the same airplane!

You never know if someone has a major problem with fragrances so it can be pretty inconsiderate to wear in closed public places. Schools and some doctor's offices around here are fragrance-free zones. Stay away from perfumes if you want to make a good impression.

Facial hair is impossible to say since it's such a personal preference. Someone may not like goatees, for example, but someone else may look much better with one than without. It seems people dislike facial hair more than like it, but hopefully we're not always judged just on our looks.

No and No.

He uses a non-scented deodorant. The only scented product he uses is a pro-climber's skin balm, which is supposed to repair the damage after he's skinned his hands hanging off of rough boulders. Smells a bit like linseed oil.

His job requires him to be clean shaven. He's a hotel manager so has to look all spiffy on the days he's meeting clients rather than hanging off rocks.

I don't have anything against beards, but somehow they always make me think of Santa.

My husband has had a mustache for over 4 decades; nobody can picture him without one. He uses a mildly scented aftershave, but that's it in the fragrance department.

DH had a mustache for about 30 years ever since he was a teenager. He had a goatee for the last 10 years or so of his life. He always used Old Spice Pure Sport body wash and deodorant. I love that scent and still have the last bottle of body wash in the bathroom because it smells like him.

I think he shaved off the mustache once or twice in the 20 years we were together and he grew it right back because he didn't feel like himself without it.

My BF has had facial hair every since I met him.  Periodically, he will shave it off.  Or grow it differently, whatever.

Honestly, I hardly notice if there's hair on his face or not.  He's still himself either way and I have no preference for with or without.

Cologne is only for going out.  He only has one at the moment, which has lasted eons lol.  Yves Saint Laurent L'HOMME.  I like it a lot!

For the sake of "scientific" query, my favorite men's cologne is Fahrenheit by Christian Dior.  I have been known to follow men in the street wearing it.  Unfortunately, an ex wore it so I won't let my current BF use it. *sigh*

My husband always has a beard, usually big and bushy. One time he had a wild hair I guess and shaved it all off. When he came out of the bathroom it literally shocked me to the point of tears! He looked like a totally different person. He kept telling me to stop Staring at him.

You make it sound like that's a bad thing.

That's hilarious. Very recently one of my co-workers shaved. I've known him for almost a year, but some of my other co-workers have known him longer, and we've never ever seen him without his facial hair. That day after we got over the initial shock, one of my other co-workers told him, "Hey, please tell your dad to come to work."

Have you seen this video:

Poor baby; she breaks my heart and makes me laugh all at once with her confusion!  Bless her heart!

FWIW & science and all; the scents I like on DH are because I associate them with him.  Other people might not notice them unless they are in very close proximity; but to me the scent of his soap and shampoo are just as pleasing as any cologne could ever be.

I had a student who was so severely allergic to scents she had to quit jobs over it.  She worked in a call center for a while; and with the turnaround in those places, there was always someone coming in bathed in something scented.  We had another client come in the office bathed in Axe while she was there.  I was afraid we'd be calling 911 because I could smell him from 50 feet away.
I had another student who only reacted to the scent of vanilla.  After that job I worked in doctor's offices; so I became more scent conscious.  Lightly applied body spray was ok there though.  But you haven't specified what sort of social setting this scientific experiment is taking place in.

A friend of mine has huge issues with scents as well.  If they bother her enough she will actually close up and can't breath.  I personally love colognes for both genders if they aren't overdone.  Ever since I met Bev and seen the issues she has with them I quit wearing them to work.  She has had to move to other cubicles because of someone's cologne.  She even has issues with many scented soaps and lotions.

No and no.  I like a five o'clock shadow, though.  And if a 90 year old man walks by me in the grocery store wearing Polo, my knees go a little weak.  I find Polo intoxicating.  I hope that's not TMI.
Strangely enough, I am so allergic to Ralph Lauren's women's fragrances that I can't wear another designer's brand.

No, he has allergies. He sticks to Old Spice aftershave and that is all he uses that is mildly scented.

:hugs:

My DH has always had facial hair since we met, and in fact I insist on it! I've seen photos of him without it, and I prefer the goatee.
He only uses the one fragrance, a Calvin Klein one. He's used since we've been together and frankly I find it boring. I'd like him to try something new, but he's not fussed. He only wears it occasionally anyway so not like it's a big deal.

I'm interested to find out just what kind of scientific research @FhiCat  is carrying out here.
Why does everything that FhiCat does have to have a reason?

I get physically ill when I walk into a fragrance store. Even stores like scented candles. I get ill in my tummy for the next several hours after. Mild soap, shampoo and deodorant is the most I can tolerate.

I can't stand facial hair! I've actually broken up with men who grew facial hair while we were dating! Yuck!!

My favourite scent on most men is Aramis. I don't mind the smell of soap and water, but smelly body odour is also a deal breaker! Eww! I'm big on personal grooming and hygiene.

Yes, but where does the facial hair fit into the scientific research?  Everything FhiCat does must have a reason.

You can't get out of it that easily. Weren't you the one who broke the internet a while back? I'm sure you've got a reason.

It's plans for World Domination, isn't it?
