Does anyone know a cat hater (or just a non-cat person) out there that has made a dumb remark about the cats in your life or just cats in general?

My sister had me scratching my head a few days ago. I mentioned that I was going to Petsmart to buy a new scratching post because my cat had destroyed the other one. She said to me, "Why don't you just get him declawed so he will stop ruining the scratching post, and then you won't have to keep buying a new one?" I turned to her and said "Why would I get him declawed for SCRATCHING on a SCRATCHING post? It's what he is supposed to do!" She had nothing to say to that.

Her jerk of a husband told me one time, "All that cats are good for is target practice."

Ugh! Some people.

No, I've never heard anything that obnoxious.

When I was a kid I heard one of my mother's friends say, "Ugh, I don't like cats." when one of our cats walked into the room.

Mum retorted "Well, she doesn't like YOU!"

I don't think that particular guest ever came round to visit again.

Fortunately I come from a feline sympathetic family, meaning we give cats the benefit of the doubt before other living beings, even with Athsma considered.

I cannot imagine living in a family that imagines life any other way.

My land lord accidentally locked my outdoor cat in the backyard shed two weeks ago and when I found out he was in there I had him unlock it so Flower could get out. My land lord was so upset because Flower had peed in there (what do you expect? He was in there for a whole day!) that he told me to get rid of him. Luckily my parents were nice enough to take Flower in and he lives with them now. I miss my little outdoor kitty but he's happy in his new home. The whole situation just boggles my mind though. I can't believe anyone could be so insensitive. He didn't even apologize for locking the cat in there. I'm now looking around for a new place to live.

My BF is totally anti-cat. He is always making smart a&& remarks about how dumb they are and how smart his dog is. He also makes the "target practice" remark. I just go you do and your dog will be target practice for me also. At least my cats don't tear up the trash all over the floor.

I can't say here what I would have told that jerk but he certainly had a lot of nerve saying that to someone who has a cat.  Your sister has bad taste in men.

I agree. I wouldn't be with anyone who didn't at least LIKE my babies.

My mother hates cats and her reasoning is so stupid it's almost funny. Almost, but not quite. She hates cats because they are "sneaky". WHAT? Really? Meanwhile, if they went thundering through the house like elephants, she'd hate them for that, too.
She's really not an animal person. She'll tolerate a dog if she's at someone's house that has one but she just sees pets as too much work and hassle.

My parents spent over a grand on two show Himalayans and then when they grew up and started to mat up easily they would take them in to be shaved every week or so…. and then when they got sick of that they just purchased a dog and "gave them away". I NEVER forgave them for that. Let's just say they weren't that best with responsibility….

i love my kitties extra now because of all of that hooey. CATS ARE NOT TOYS PEOPLE YOU CANT JUST REPLACE THEM

luckily both kitties went to a very loving home together about 24 hours after then reached the shelter (they were beautiful)

I still get so worked up over it

I was born a animal person (with my parents I have no clue how that happened….)

Oh my I have seen and met many mean people when it comes to aggression I have had my fill
I had one neighbor feed my cat antifreeze when I was a young teen. Because he escaped from our house and was meowing at the neighbors female cat who was in heat because he refused to fix it. Sadly the little girl who lived that (it was her cat) ate the food as well and both cats died.
The father (who was the neighbor who poisoned the cats) Said to us both we were better off without those wretched. I t was horrible both me and the little girl became friends after and she literally moved out at 16 just to get away from him. But that is not the only time I had encountered such aggression. I was at a town meeting where a man was setting bear traps to kill all local wildlife that came onto the property. But the worse part is that he used wet cat food to bait the traps... So he had killed 3 neighborhood cats and 2 dogs...
So very wrong... We fought against him and won in the end and he had all the traps taken away and was told if he did it again that he would be fined $1500 each occurrence.

Just my opinion but I could never be with anyone who makes cruel comments about animals. Luckily I haven't had too many people make insensitive remarks except every now and then at work but I have to just make a not too rude for work sassy reply because if I were to reply by saying what REALLY comes to mind then I would likely be escorted out and who knows what else. I see a lot of cruel remarks on message boards(not here, usually news sites) but I usually hold back and try not to give the online trolls what they want.

I unfortunately have a few friends that hate cats. I have heard the "The only good cat is a dead cat" and "Cats make great target practice" or "cats are evil".

I also have people who have chided me for purchasing quality expensive food for baby girl. They say, cats don't need all that- and all cat food has to meet minimum standards. That might be so, but I want the best for my baby! (The best I can afford anyway, which right now is the Blue Buffalo Wilderness).

I also have heard from cat haters, that "cats smell". They seem to think that any cat is going to smell... and I explain you scoop the litter, change it, and keep them clean- they don't smell!!!

Finally, I would never be in a long term relationship with anyone who did not like cats. Luckily- my DH is a doting , loving, cuddly cat daddy! He comes home from work every day, picks Xena up- kisses her- and says "How is my princess, I missed you baby girl" followed by 10 kisses on the head :) She then nudges him and purrs, then usually lays in his lap for an hour or so until dinner.

There was a situation my my city where it was found that Chinese restaurants had been buying / trapping stray dogs and used the meat for the dishes.

So now people think they are being witty by saying " you have dogs / cats? careful of those chinese people" or "you should give it away, I'm sure it'd make a nice soup for someone"
I usually reply "I'm sure he would! He's better fed than most people. hmmm... looking chubby there dude, maybe someone should make soup out of you.... well maybe not, who wants a fatty soup anyways... eww
".

It sounds harsh, but due to the chinese restaurants situation, everyone seems to want to be "cool" and join in on the "pets for food" jokes, so I prefer to nip it in the bud rather than me swinging their heads off. I'm usually very nice and mild mannered, but I can get pretty mean if provoked
