LOL! Me too, Sue... Every year it seems like someone e-mails it to me, so I thought I take a gamble and post it in here, too. Heck, I probably posted this in here last year for all I know, ROTFL!!

Sorry if I offended you Danielle.... I was just being silly—not to be taken seriously.

Those are belly busters!

I worked with mentally ill people before being in the intensive care unit in Michigan and I think it's not offending to me at all! People who work on Psychiatric units love that kind of humor!

Well, Tybalt and I are both on medication for mental illness, and we both found this to be hilarious. Lighten up!

Thats great that you can find humour in it. Some of us can't. My mom works with severely mentally ill people who are on welfare and live in rat infested apartments because they can't work. I can't find the humour in it sorry.

My sister is bi-polar and was in a mental hospital for several months due to a psychotic episode. Visiting there wasn't easy that's for sure. What I do recall is that humor was a great help in dealing with the situation (as soon as the medication kicked in that is - before that she was too happy!). She still jokes about that time - about other patients and about her own delusions. I think it's helping her deal with it.

Mental illness is very sad - trust me, it was heart breaking to see her in that condition. It's tragic. However, IMHO, humor is sometimes a good thing when you deal with this issue. In a sense making fun of the illness (not the patients) can sometimes help you deal with it. Just my 2 cents anyway.

OMG it doesn't say anything personal about patients. I take meds for depression and OCD myself and if I can't laugh about my own conditions then I'd be pretty miserable. I also have an uncle who is Schizophrenic who also finds humor in his disease. Humor helps the patient, as well as the mental health care worker, cope sometimes. When a mental health care worker quits finding humor, he suffers burn out. Been on both sides. These don't make fun of the patient or his situation (in rat infested apartments etc.) I also have narcolepsy and I love humor pointed at narcoleptics. And 15 years ago I spent time being homeless and living in a shelter. So I DO know where the patients are coming from. We all need to lighten up a little bit and getting through this difficult life will be much easier!

I'm adding this link to show how people use humor in their own diseases to cope. The link below is for a website called Camp Nukemboobie and is for breast cancer survivors and their families. There's some pretty funny stuff on there.
Camp Nukemboobie

And this site is the same type of satire/humor by an actual mental health worker. In fact the Psych Christmas caroles are listed on this page.

Movin' on up!
Since her stroke, my mom has come out with some pretty funny stuff. She doesn't always have control over what she says and, sometimes, what she's thinking pops out of her mouth. We ALL laugh about it, including Mom.
