Hi everyone. I'm new to this site. I'm just hoping for a little advice. My cat had 5 babies 2 weeks ago Sunday. (This was an accidental litter, and she is getting spayed soon). The babies are doing great, and she's a good momma. So here is my question: my cat has been with me since she was 6 weeks old. She's very loving and loves people. But she seems to be a little over protective of her babies. She let's me hold them, and has no problem with me around the babies but she gets antsy if the kittens are out of the nest for more than 10 seconds. She won't let them explore at all. And now she almost seems jealous of them. Like I said, she's a very good momma, and takes good care of them. But when I get a kitten out and I have him in my lap, she immediately takes him right back to the nest and then crawls into my lap and rubs on my face and cries until I pet her and snuggle with her. She's a very affectionate cat. She seems to be jealous of the attention the kittens are getting. Is this normal? And is it normal for her to not let them explore at all? Will she ease up a bit as they get older? Thanks in advance for any advice. And thank you for reading this super long post.

She will ease up when they get older. They are just 2 weeks old, and it's her job/duty to protect her kittens. Despite that she knows you, her motherly instinct will take over and thus she doesn't feel comfortable with you taking her kids from their safe place. Soon, when they are walking around on their own, she will feel more at ease with it as they are leaving on their own. It's natural for her if they start walking themselves, but not natural if you take them from her.

She's just being a very good mom with a lot of motherly instinct ;)
