Hey everyone...I have searched and read several comments about pet scales on this site but wanted to start a new thread to have it in one place.

I am interested in buying a pet scale for my home and I'm interested on the ones that you have purchased and like or disliked.

I have seen several folks recommend a baby/pet scale that has the tray that fits in to a base (as someone commented, it looks like a Pringle potato chip tray).  :)
I will say that I bought this one some time back at a discount store (store return items) but took it back partly because I didn't feel the weight was accurate (I was weighing marked items that had their weight on them and I was getting a totally different weight...but maybe the scale was defective).

I also have researched and seen a tray incorported in to the base of the scale so only one piece.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOMEIMAGE-D...681?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19e1c67f29 Both of the ones that I looked at have the "hold" function for when the kitty moved around on the scale.  I do like the fact that this is only one piece and looks easier to store than the onewith the "potato chip" tray.

Any info. you could provide on your personal experiences would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks!

I bought this pet scale from Amazon last March:

I also bought this little calibration weight as well to ensure accuracy:

I weight my cats once a week and I use the calibration weight to test the accuracy every time before I weigh the cats. I find the scale to be very accurate and durable.

Thanks! Unfortunately this particular scale isn't currently available but I have heard this is a good brand. And I had not thought of the calibration weight...cheap and very useful!!

Anyone else want to chime in? All input is greatly appreciated!!!

I, too, read reviews here and on various sites online. My criteria was specific, so I ended up going off on my own.
I didn't want to spend a fortune. I wanted a large tray so that the cat can sit or lay comfortably, an AC adapter, tare feature (most have this, but best to double check), and a resolution that measured pounds to the hundredths (two digits after the decimal point). Resolution is the smallest increment of weight which the numeric display can indicate. I didn't care if the scale was simple, as long as it was accurate and easy to use.

I ended up buying this one from Old Will Knott Scales:

http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/my-weigh-mbsc-55-ultrascale.html

This is the second My Weigh scale I've purchased from this company. My first scale was a kitchen scale. So far no issues with either. If you read the reviews on the page I linked to above, you'll see that others use this scale for their cats. That certainly helped my decision.

There are only two things I don't like about this scale. One is that it doesn't have a calibration feature. However, I already had a calibration weight, so I check the accuracy from time to time by weighing the calibration weight, and it is spot on. And two is that the buttons seem kind of cheap. But heck, I suppose I don't care as long as it's doing its job.

Good luck!

Thanks! I checked the website you provided and see it does include the AC adapter that other sites I found donor. As with every scale I research, I've found mixed reviews but you always wonder whether it is an actual defect or a "user error"!?!?

Keep the reviews coming, please! I really appreciate all your feedback!!!!

Good to hear that this one is working well.  I almost bought it last year.  Like the remote display and the resolution.

Now, though, I'm loathe to actually buy anything too specialized because I'm waiting for this gadget:  https://tailio.com/  (Weird, the web site worked a minute ago and now doesn't, here's the Kickstarter page ) I'm not sure I would have done it even at $179 (apparently the full retail price will be $249!), but I managed to get in the Kickstarter at $99.  Once it arrives, which has been pushed back now until the 4th quarter of this year at least, I will review it on this site.  If it does even most of what they are hoping it will do, it could be a huge advantage in tracking cat health.

I brought home an old scale from work that should be usable in the meantime, but it requires me to figure out a box to use (too small for cat to just stand on, and they'd just run right off it anyway) and stuff so I haven't done it.  But I really need to keep an eye on the weight of both cats (one too heavy, one to make sure she maintains enough weight).  Probably I also drag my feet because I'm afraid it's going to confirm all the more that I need to get more aggressive in feeding measures.  They're so routinized to eating together in a certain spot that it will be difficult to change that.

I'll be curious to see your teviews. Interesting they say it can work with multiple cats but with multiple cats you're supposed to have multiple boxes do I guess you're supposed to buy multiple devices so all boxes are monitored??? Otherwise the analytics would be completely off!

Ok I finally had a "duh!" moment and called my vet's office to see what was the last scale they had which I liked. It is a Brecknell MS-15. A little more expensive than I thought but love the design and the reviews. I'm on my phone or I'd share a link. Anyone else have one?

This is the COOLEST thing! Since I do weigh my cats once a week, the only thing it would help me with is determining frequency of litter box usage for each of my cats. This could be very useful but not something I would pay $249 for.

I have this one also, and really like it.  It didn't occur to me about the calibration weight though, I may have to look into that.

Such a relief that I found this thread...though it is dated a couple of years, but still it has helped me in my shopping for a home pet scale. Trying to weigh my two "hefty" cats by appearances, groping their bellies (oh they hate this), and "can daddy pickup???" bear hugs isn't working. "Winter is Coming" (love my Game of Thrones T-shirt). Really it is! I can tell by my "hefty" cats bringing in the new fluffy fur undercoats. The new growth of fur is throwing my weight judging out of calibration. "Wait...is that all fluff or did you gain a few pounds? Wait a second...that is new WEIGHT gain!"

I've been scouring Amazon for weight scales (since they have a large one-stop database) and just when I think I'm onto something the reviews make me star crazy :stars:. I saved the Brecknell MS-15 to my list for further research for now.

So does anyone have any new info, product reviews or experiences that you could update to this thread for Fall 2017?

Also what became of the Tailio Kickstarter? This caught my attention but the updates seemed to have abruptly stopped in 2015?

Hi! I'm curious if you received your Tailio and how it turned out? My kitty is now facing cancer and if this product actually works it would be an amazing way to monitor her progress.

If I didn't already have a pet scale, I would be looking at the infant scale. Other options appear to be postage scales and luggage scales.
I have the zieis, but in the 30 lb model.
Tommy started dieting at 21 lbs.
