Hi All!

I am in desperate need of your help!!

We currently have 2 cats  -- a male and female (Bentley and Gabby) -- both fixed and declawed.  We've had Bentley for about 2 years and Gabby for about 1 year.  We've never had any issues with either of them...until now.

We also foster for the Humane Society (in fact, Gabby was a foster cat -- we had her and her kittens and fell in love with her and ended up adopting her) -- which up until has not been a problem for either of our cats.  They have seemed to take the new visitors in stride and it hasn't really ever seemed to affect them.

We recently took in a pregnant mama cat, who had her kittens at our house.  She was a VERY protective mama, and a couple times, my daughter accidentally left the door open to the foster room -- mama cat got out and was very aggressive to Gabby and they got in a couple big fights.

The foster room and the room that houses our cats' litter boxes are very close together  (though separate rooms, in our basement).  Ever since the incident between Gabby and mama cat, Gabby has been pooping on the floor.  She seems to be peeing in her litterbox, but leaves us a wonderful treat -- in the same spot, every day -- on the carpet behind our TV.  Bentley seems to be using the box just fine at this point.

Mama cat is now gone (the kittens are still with us for a couple of weeks) -- we have taken her down there to show her that mama cat is gone, but we are still getting our daily treats from her -- same spot.  The poop is not runny -- seems like fairly normal poop.  I think this is all related to the issues with mama cat, i just don't know what to do now!!

Where do I even begin to fix this problem?

Hi @amberkempter and welcome to TCS!

You've come to the right place.. we talk poo a lot around here.

You're cleaning the area thoroughly with an enzyme cleaner?  It's usually more for wee, but I do it with anything that comes out of that end..
How about putting another litterbox where she's pooing?  You could also try spraying the area with feliway (cat pheromones) as it may settle her.  Or just try a diffuser for a while.

Do you just have the one box?  If so you're very lucky, as the general rule is one for each cat + one.  Here's our ultimate guide.. it may have more ideas for you.

Good luck!

Gabby is feeling very insecure & this problem likely won't go away until the kittens leave your house. Do what Mani suggested & also give her lots of love & attention, play games etc etc, make her feel special again :)
