Hi all,

I've had kittens before, but it was a long time ago, but I don't remember them being this wild.  We're not even sure if we can keep Penny.

We picked her up last week at 8 weeks old, and she was the last of her litter remaining (may have been a warning...)  We had read a lot before, and since, about how active they can be and appropriate times and ways to play with them--but she never seems to stop!  As an example, we were up with our 3 year old son at 7am this morning, he played with her for most of the time until he left at 9 and it's now nearly 11 and she's still going!

IS this normal?  Most the sites I've seen say their craziest time is 6-12 months, there's no way we can cope if this gets worse!

Some kittens are just super active
It's just their personality, much like how some Human kids are always super active and running around while others are content to play quietly. The breed of the cat also plays a role. Some breeds are high energy. When my Abyssinian was a kitten he was bouncing off the walls 24/7
I knew Abys were a high energy breed but I wasn't quite expecting non-stop action and attention demanding. I ended up adopting a similar age cat so my Aby could have someone to play with. That helped a lot. Many kittens do settle down when they reach a year old or so.

Consider adopting a friend for your kitten. Two kittens can wrestle and play with each other for entertainment. Or adopt an older cat who is more set in his or her ways but still playful enough for a kitten.

If adopting isn't adoption, just give the kitten more playtime. Fishing pole toys work great to burn off some of that energy. Tossing or rolling balls up and down the hallway or stairs work well, too.
