Two kittens, two preferences. One wants canned, one wants kibble.

Little boogers, haha.

It’s not too much of an issue, but it certainly is funny. I have introduced you fine people to my first kitten, Castiel, but now we have a second kitten, Lilith. They are 22 days apart, she’s younger.

I tried to introduce her to the canned food that Castiel eats and she just hissed at it. She went the whole evening and first night without eating. She drank from the water fountain, but that’s it. Come the next morning I gave her an ounce of a trial sized bag of Nature’s Variety Instinct Protein. She went to town on the stuff, haha. I made sure to put a couple tablespoons of warm water in with the kibble to ensure she gets proper moisture.

I went out today and bought two big bags (11.3 lb and 12.1 lb) of cat food. Nature’s Variety Instinct Raw Boost (Chicken) and Nature’s Variety Instinct (rabbit). I have been following the Nature’s Variety feeding guide for proper feeding methods. I have a food scale to feed them with. I also weigh my cats weekly to ensure they are getting the proper nutrition.

The schedule goes like this:

She is six weeks, about two pounds. 3oz per day (3/8 cup) divided into four feedings throughout the day. Each feeding will contain 21g of kibble. 3oz = 85g. 85g / 4 = 21g.

First feeding is at 8AM, second is Noon, the third is 4PM and then 8PM.

Castiel gets fed at the same time, but he gets 4oz of canned food per day. He is nine weeks, a little over two pounds (he was the runt from his litter). 1oz per feeding. He prefers rabbit, venison and lamb of the canned variety (Nature's Variety). He also eats raw food from time to time. Livers, hearts, bones, sinew, et cetera. I have been speaking with a pet nutritionist who is well educated and experienced with raw. I will likely transition him to raw when we move into our new house with a bigger freezer and fridge.

I absolutely would prefer it if Lilith ate canned food, but I won’t cry over it. I will continue to get the best foods possible. I have been trying to get my hands on the raw medallions and other raw cat food from Nature’s Variety, but none of the stores nearby carry it just yet. Grrr.
