So the past couple of days my Pip has not been really eating the way she normally does.  We've been opening cans and sometimes she'll lick at it a little but then leaves it alone.  she does go a little bit more crazy over dry food but I don't want her dehydrating and the only way she'll drink water is with a little bit of fat free milk and I don't want to really give her too much milk and hurt her tummy.  I'm taking her to the vet on Friday just to be safe (as I have lost two other cats in the past from cancer and flv).

But do any of you have advice on how to get her to eat and drink or if I should just leave it out and let her eat when she wants?

All I can tell you for certain is that when it gets hot, lots of cats DO eat less, especially if you don't have central a/c.  One summer a few years ago I was at wits end because all three of mine were eating what I thought was quite a bit less, and I mentioned that to one of the clerks in our specialty pet food store.  The clerk said that almost everyone who came in was saying the exact same thing
.  She said her own cats were the same way, so we attributed it to the weather, even though everyone out here does have A/C.  Cats can still get sluggish, just like we humans.  I don't know about you, but when it's HOT, I eat less too.  And I don't play as much either

I can appreciate the fact that you don't want her to become dehydrated.  Goat's milk is ok for cats.  Have you tried using that vs cow's milk?  Here are some other tips to get cats to drink more:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/tips-to-increase-your-cat-s-water-intake

Depending on how hot it is where her food is would depend on how long you could safely leave it out.  A couple of hours might be ok though, especially indoors with a/c.

Depending on how much or how little she is eating, you might want to try feeding tuna or plain boiled chicken just to be sure she is eating something.

We have.  she won't eat the chicken but she gulped down a whole tuna can.
