My cat attacks my kid.

I have a 6 year old and the cat (2 years old) will climb in his lap and my son will just pet and rub on him and the cat loves it. He will pur and do all the things a cat does when they're being petted but as soon as the cat is finished getting petted he will start scratching and biting my son and recently started going for his face. And they're not friendly or playful bites and scratches. I just don't understand why he does this right after getting some loving! How do I stop this?
